Of those on the list, I say Metallica for everything they did BEFORE the Black album. After that.. well, let's just leave it there.

Despite that choice, the truly best metal band, in my book, is Between the Buried and Me. I love them with all of my heart. Paul Waggoner, Dan Briggs and Blake Richardson are my heroes.

I'd Say Metallica, but all are great bands, but ive just been listening to Metallica too much and the others not enough, but we shouldnt be talking about which metal band is best, we should be talking about how much rap sucks in comparison to Metal.
Kayne West or whatever that dudes called for example, how much bum-rape would Megadeth provide in comparison? :D
How about no, that's a terrible idea.

Agreed. How is Megadeth providing 'more bum-rape' than Kanye a good thing? Fag.

Metallica, because from all those band i have only heard Metallica and Megadeth.
Then go post on the 'ignorant' forum instead.
That was pretty uncalled for. Not everyone is a big fan of metal. I know loads of people that wouldn't know who most of those bands are. They're not ignorant, it just doesn't appeal to them.

Yeah, it's deathcore. Erm...what the hell is deathcore because I've never listened to it and NONE of the bands listed are that whatsoever. You, sir are a complete tool and have absolutely no idea about metal. Killswitch Engage are deathcore are they? Yeah, nice one! Someone who laughs at the name Pantera is clearly a pussy anyway. Get your lack of knowledge (especially as I feel you probably haven't heard ANY of the bands I've listed) out of this thread, you bumder.
You accuse me of knowing nothing about metal yet you don't even know what deathcore is? Metalcore is essentially an offshoot/combination of groove metal, hardcore punk, melodic death metal and nu metal that arose in the late 90s - deathcore is a more modern variant of it that includes more harsh vocals and more complex instrumental parts, but the foundation of the music stays the same. Bands like Between the Buried and Me, Bring Me the Horizon, The Black Dahlai Murder, Job for a Cowboy, Despised Icon, etc. are all deathcore.

Admittedly, after reading over your post a second time, more of what you have listed falls into just plain metalcore (Killswitch Engage being the definitive one), which is really just as bad. It's all part of the same early 2000s mentality towards metal that the big record labels have latched onto and promoted, resulting in a manufactured sound and image that is really completely detached from metal's predecessors in spirit and quality. The only surface commonality is aesthetics, and even that is a tenuous link at best.

Why the hell isn't Pantera up there? Rubbish!! lol :)
Because according to some completely ignorant idiots, Pantera 'destroyed' thrash metal by popularising the completely made up genre of 'groove metal'.

Pantera own...end of story.

Oh, you've got me there. You've used someone else's opinion to represent your own. Ouch!

It never ceases to amaze me how pathetic some internet posters can be.
You're right, because it's entirely impossible that 2 people can have the same opinion about something.

Also, hasn't anyone noticed that this entire thread was started with a poll to find the BEST METAL BAND?! Explain how people are supposed to respond on here by mentioning bands they think deserve to be the best metal band without sounding 'elitist'. Why don't you go crying back to your Arctic Monkeys and The Killers and leave these discussions to people who aren't pussies.
I don't know what gave you the idea that I listen to The Killers and Arctic Monkeys (whoever they may be), but I see what you're trying to get across: Your favorite bands (of which I like quite a few myself, so you might want to stop making groundless assumptions) are the only way to go and everyone else is wrong, and their opinions are below you. Excuse me your majesty, but I believe that's what I meant when I was referring to your post as elitist.
Just because you don't like the bands the OP put in the poll doesn't mean they're not metal. They created the bloody genre and without them, I doubt any of your precious [insert genre] bands (I don't "do" genres, metal is metal.) would exist today. Feel free to enlighten me about the history of whatevergenrethatis and if you can convince me (or anyone) that Black Sabbath had nothing to do with how it came along, please go ahead and convince the earth to stop rotating, because you must be incredibly persuasive.
If you like a certain band better than those in the poll, go ahead and vote "other", and then tell us what band and why, that's fine. Calling everyone who doesn't share your musical taste a pussy is not.

I can say without doubt, that the greatest metal band ever is lamb of god. This is not a subjective opinion, it is fact. Many scientifically conducted studies that were peer reviewed by many intelligent scientists and published in journals around the world have all come up with this one true answer. If you disagree, you are wrong. I'm sorry, but you'll have to live with it.

I really don't think any of those bands deserve the title of best band. Slayer is possibly the only one I'd think about, but I don't find them good enough to consider a 'best'. I really don't know what to name best metal band there alot of decent ones out there.

Notable ones I can think of are Sepultura, Morbid Angel, Nasum, In Flames and Decapitated. Also Anthrax, Meshuggah and Pantera should be mentioned. However, I wouldn't know which to put at the top of the list. The band listed in the poll are all quite... old school and seem to be more fan service and remenisence than anything else. For the record I found black sabbath far to soft to really enjoy if I was in a metal mood. I'd consider them more hard rock tha anything else.

I was about to post something along those lines, but the way I worded it would probably have gotten me banned.

I smell a Wikipedia paste there, son. Please explain to me how Pantera and Lamb of God are either metalcore (which I will admit, I do love), or indeed posessing a more manufactured sound than Metallica? Metallica are the most manufactured and mainstream metal band in history.

This really is too rich. A Pantera fan who doesn't know what groove metal is? Seriously? Sorry kiddo, groove metal is a real genre. Pantera isn't the worst band out there, but what they did with Cowboys from Hell is create an album that basically toned down the aggressiveness, speed and power of thrash metal in favour of bouncy drum and bass syncopation combined with poppy guitar hooks. This is what gained in popularity, and other thrash bands switched over to it in order to keep up with the Joneses. Thrash metal went back to being largely an underground thing.

As I've said a few times already in this thread, go and educate yourself before opening your mouth. If you are going to purport to have knowledge of a genre of music, I suggest you at least do the research first and verify your facts. I'm not sure how old you are or how long you've been listening, but if you don't know what groove metal is then you really do not know nearly as much as you think you do.

Hehehe....they are pretty good though. I love Choke Sermon. By the way, my Kidd 316 sense is tingling. I get the feeling you might soon be called a fag, pussy or something to that effect.

Oh I know, they're just really not all that great and are partially responsible for destroying thrash metal by popularising groove metal.
What the hell is groove metal?! -runs off to google-
