It seems that alot of people have forgotten what metal is.

Luckily the OP didn't, and kept bands like Disturbed, Korn, and SOAD far away from the poll.

Er...ok so all the bands in the poll absolutely suck, except possibly for Slayer, but their material is so samey and boring that I can't deal with them for too long.

I can't believe that Metallica are actually popular in this day and age, what with their last 4 or so albums being absolutely terrible, ESPECIALLY St. Anger. You know, the album where they didn't let Kirk play any solos because they wanted to sell out that tiny little extra bit (and then when they let him play them again on his new album, he's forgotten how to and ends up churning out some god awful structureless mess for the entire album). Work it out, Metallica suck!

Anyway, I'm astounded that nobody has even mentioned the single greatest metal band EVER on here and that is, of course, PANTERA.

As I Lay Dying, Byzantine, Chimaira, DevilDriver, The Haunted, Human Abstract, Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Parkway Drive, Protest the Hero, SikTh and of course the mighty Unearth are all better than every band anyone on here has mentioned (especially Protest the Hero and Unearth).

There are way too many little kids running around shouting off about how bands like Disturbed are some sort of metal band...they're really not (that's why they're on Kerrang TV) and they're also one of the most terrible bands I've ever heard. Stop listening to mainstream wuss rock like Korn and Slipknot and Busted and McFly and listen to real metal so that you don't end up talking absolute rubbish like the user Not Good, who seems to think that InFlames are a punk band because he's clearly never heard metal OR punk. Moron.

And I was just about to say that Pantera is the ONLY band up there that is really missing. I personally voted Metallica simply because their newest album is great.

Pantera has just as much legitamancy to the metal title as any other band up there.

Yeah, it's deathcore. Erm...what the hell is deathcore because I've never listened to it and NONE of the bands listed are that whatsoever. You, sir are a complete tool and have absolutely no idea about metal. Killswitch Engage are deathcore are they? Yeah, nice one! Someone who laughs at the name Pantera is clearly a pussy anyway. Get your lack of knowledge (especially as I feel you probably haven't heard ANY of the bands I've listed) out of this thread, you bumder.

Oh I know, they're just really not all that great and are partially responsible for destroying thrash metal by popularising groove metal.

You're damn right they do. Dimebag RIP. And let's give a shout out to the mighty Black Label Society while we're at it.

I would like to take this opportunity and say that In Flames is PUNK. Not Metal, as the genre name metalcore would lead you to believe. the -core makes it punk.
I don't know of In Flames necessarily being "punk." Their new bullshit would probably fall best under the genre occupied by Hawthorne Heights and other crappy emo bands. Old School In Flames fits better under the Death Metal genre.

Anyway I'm more of a Lamb of God, Devil Driver person.

Hail of Bullets is great. I got their album a few months ago. The vocalist is well-known for being in Asphyx and Pestilence as well. They definitely have a similar feel as far as atmosphere goes, but I think Bolt Thrower do a better job in some ways... Bolt Thrower, especially on Those Once Loyal, has a sort of constant forward motion that reminds me of ever-advancing waves of men and iron, and the absolutely monstrous, grinding bass sound combined with the engine-oil vocals can't help but make me think "war machine".
Yeah Bolt Thrower feel like they do it better. I think "Tank (Mk.1)" from "For Victory..." from about the 40 second mark is good evidence of that. I ALWAYS picture a Panzer grinding along crushing walls, barbed wire and the occasional troop. Forward motion is right, just listen to The Killchain. Relentless...in the last 50 seconds it sounds like it's kinda struggling to get going but is going to keep assaulting regardless, pressing the attack until it fights through. I think the best music is the type that can put pictures in your mind.

I love your track by the way. It was all by you?? The vocals are especially good and my head was always moving. I'd buy it!

Maybe some new In Flames, but if you listen to the older albums like Whoracle and Colony, you'll hear that they're melodeath.

Why do you have to be defiant [http://www.thefreedictionary.com/defiant] by mentioning that? You are not exactly being a rebel or anything, right?

Ohhhhhhhhhh, you mean definitely?

[/arrogance]

Anyway, I'm not much into rock myself, but I actually agree with you.

I'd Say Metallica, but all are great bands, but ive just been listening to Metallica too much and the others not enough, but we shouldnt be talking about which metal band is best, we should be talking about how much rap sucks in comparison to Metal.
Kayne West or whatever that dudes called for example, how much bum-rape would Megadeth provide in comparison? :D
