Poll: Best Modern FPS?

Bioshock for single player and TF2 for multi player... it only makes perfect sense...

No way its Halo or CoD for me. I'd say it's between HalfLife 2, Deus Ex, and Portal. Purely because they were the most revolutionary

Personally I wouldn't consider Deus Ex or Portal to be FPSs.

I think I'll go with HL2 though.

what would consider Deus Ex to be than? I understand Portal it was more of a puzzle game.

What is 'better' about MW2 is all down to taste.

Too bad nobody plays Shattered Horizon though.

I'll go with Half Life 2. (Good choice Sephychu!) It's the first FPS I ever played that made me think; this is interesting! And yet, still fun.

And no Bioshock isn't an FPS/RPG. That's like saying Mass Effect 2 is an RPG. Or that Modern Warfare 2 is the best game ever. It's just not true.

Indeed, the best way to approach 'best' threads is usually to go with 'favorite' instead.

I preferred the gameplay in MW2 for the most part, although I still think 'All Ghillied Up' from COD4 is the best - I mean, my favorite- COD level ever.

Personally, I hate COD with all my heart lol. But I LOVE Halo!!! i just find it so much fun, and ppl arent as much of a dick as ppl are on cod lol. I thinking realisting FPS's are pretty boring... energy shields all the way up, I can now withstand any barrage fire from the die hard cod fans! lol

Umm Killzone 2. It focuses on actually realism, they don't make everyone as quick and accurate as solid Snake like they do in COD games. You actually need skill to play that game thats why people complain about it.

Bad controls are bad controls, it doesn't matter if it was done on purpose, and that's why at least 80% of people I talked to were turned off by it.

Also why KZ3 has changed it completely.

OT:

Gameplay wise: Fear 1 (the shoot outs still mop the floor with the likes of the next two games, and GASP the AI is good!), MW2, Halo 3(as much as I hate the franchise I can't deny its gamplay).

Storywise: Half Life 2, Bioshock/SS2.

FPS I'm looking forward to: Crysis 2, Rage, Bulletstorm, KZ3, Fear 3 ( hoping it's a return to form).

Bad Controls? I found that gamwe very easy to master. It takes strategy and skill to be good. People that claim that the game has bad controls either a) Suck at the game or b)think every game should control the same as MW2. Heck, I play the game when MW2 gets me bored lol.

*Fear 1 has the worst controls EVER. I finished Fear 1&2 the past 2 weeks (on ps3) and found the controls horrid. R2 to shoot, (wtf), R1 to change weapons, L1 to throw grenades. Add to the fact that you can't play the game without slowing down time every battle b/c the AI is far superior to you and you have one of the worst FPS's ever created. Probably was good for its time though.

I don't know I played it on the PC, I had no problems with the controls there...=/

Oh, and I've beat KZ2 on its hardest difficulty, the controls idea is just bad, but if you like the idea of putting your skills to the test dealing with bad controls go ahead....I would rather see the game be more challenging in the AI department than in the broken controls department.

Anyone seen the new Halo Reach trailers? I'm gonna go ahead and say that!..Seriously though, I had SO MUCH fun in the beta, more than any other game in recent memory.

For Multiplayer, it'd say Halo 3, the game is just fun (And maybe CoD as a whole for a runner up. I wish I had TF2 so I could also comment on that, the trail I had was a load of fun.)

For Singleplayer? No idea, SP games are never really THAT GREAT when it's an FPS. I would say CoD4 was pretty awesome, but a lot of the time it just annoyed me.

I love that game. It with the ACE2 mod is the closest thing to real combat you'll ever experience.

That's not necessarily a good thing.

I like my FPS's as crazy and nonsensical as possible. Case in point: TF2

It's not technically an FPS, because you can go into third person too, but it's close enough. If you insist on real FPS, then I put forward STALKER.
