Why is the poll so shit? Where's Watchmen, District 9 and Inglorious Basterds? At least you've got The Hangover up there. Anyway, my MOTY goes to Watchmen, honorable mentions go to every other movie I brought up in this post.

"District 9" or "Avatar."

Both great movies on respective movie fronts: "District 9" was fantastic on the story while "Avatar" was beautful on the visual effects.

Perhaps neither of them were revolutionary and groundbreaking in cinema history, but both are deserving of some award in recognition for their work.

Best movies of this year that I've seen were In the Loop and 500 Days of Summer. District 9 and the Hurt Locker were great but not the best, The Hangover and Star Trek were good but not great. I still have to see Basterds, Avatar, Up in the Air (which has been getting awesome reviews) and Sherlock Holmes though.

Also, if you've been turned off from 500 Days because it sounds either hipsterish or too much like a romantic comedy, its really neither. The music is the only part that is really vaguely hipstery and its certainly not a romcom by any stretch. I can't recommend that film more. Plus, its just plain funny seeing the kid from "10 Things I Hate About You" all grown up.

As far as In the Loop goes, you have to have an alert mind to appreciate it, and a meagre understanding of the differences between the British and American political systems. If you have either of those or a familiarity with the TV series it's an extension of, you will absolutely love that film.

How can you have Transformers 2 here ? It sucked... and you can't put a sucky movie here, or can you. Anyway my vote goes to District 9.

None of the above. My vote goes to UP. The only movie that ever made me cry both in theatres and on DVD

Where the fuck is Zombieland? The poll really looks like a few popular movies and the rest being things from the past month or two. Plus, I can't vote since I haven't seen any of those. :/

Are we only really counting high grossers?

For highest grosser, I'll take District 9.

For best picture, I pick the Hurt Locker.

Scratch my last few posts, where's (500) Days of Summer? That was by far the best movie I've seen this year!

Avatar was one of the few first, Scifi/militarylike movie that has been made recently, and done well for a 90% CGI movie. good story for the average people, good values influenced in hidden thematics.
