This is Joe Haldeman's absolute finest hour. Sure, it's only recently qualified for "series" at all... but that doesn't mean a great deal. They're still excellent books.

Stephen King's Dark Tower Series.

It is full of epic win from start to finish.

And I'd call more sci-fi than fantasy.

That series was awesome right up until book 5, where it got really really shit, convoluted and only served to stroke Kings massive ego. i am this disappointed because i paid actual money for all the books. and loved the first 4. The ending blows too.

I am suggesting Dan Simmons Hyperion/Fall Of Hyperion/Endymion/Rise Of Endymion series as grade a epic space opera with a hatred of authority especially religious. As a close second to the genius that is Hitchikers.

FACT: The HitchHikers Guide to the Galaxy is one of the best Science Fiction works ever created. If you like it or not its something you have to live up with.

I loved all of them EXCEPT for he fourth one. That one is terrible. Very monotonous in my opinion. The last one is the best, because of the ending.
