My favorite is Sisko, who was written more interestingly and acted more convincingly, as was the case with Deep Space Nine in general.

Although I do think Picard was good, nothing quite like the original Kirk.

Picard. He is clearly the superior officer.

Picard has it all over Kirk. He's poised and measured and doesn't wear a cheap rug. Rather, he accepts even baldness with a quiet cool that says: "I am in command. You are safe with me. I will cradle you in my arms through any crisis in any galaxy."

Janeway was awesome. She showed much more flexibility than any other captain, And she was a more of a human captain then some of the others. Although Picard is a close second.

Picard. He's in far more control of his crew, in my view. Mind you, I've only seen both Kirks and Picard in action, so it might change when I get around to the rest. I also prefer Picard's crew.

Plus, I can't figure out who would play an adaptation of Picard to replace Patrick's quite frankly awesome performance. Kirk is slightly easier to have someone recast (not that they ever should, or should have!)

Picard. You know you are doing a good job as captain of exploring. When you go through new ships like they are cookies. Picard pushes the envelope a little farther with each mission he is on.

Kirk has only had really one ship and it should have been outdated after the Wrath of Kahn.

You always choose Patrick Stewart.

Always.
Well said.

James Tiberius Kirk is William Shatner.
Jean-Luc Picard is Patrick Stewart.

Watching Shatner try to act is good for comedy, but not much else. Seeing him try to convey anger or surprise generally consists of him putting. Really weird breaks. In his sentences, and gesticulating like a lunatic. Stewart, on the other hand, is a serious Shakespearean actor.

Tough call.

I loved Janeway as a captain. She was my favorite, just ahead of Picard. Granted, they both shared a lot of the same qualities, but Janeways ingenuity and resourcefulness I think puts her ahead, though I don't doubt Picard could have done just as well in the same situation. Then again, he also had a bigger ship built for that kinda thing...
