So any chance I can convince anyone on here to go blood doning soon? Regardless of country donor levels are pretty low at the moment and it's becoming a pretty bad issue.

I'd agree, but I am really, really crap with needles.

It's particularly embarassing cause my mum and my sister aren't bothered by them at all.

Why is there no poll option for "I can't give blood anytime soon because I have to wait several weeks in between appointments."?

I gave blood four days ago, so now I have to wait three months before I can do it again. It's for a good cause and I'm type O+ so it's useful to most people.

Because it was mostly aimed at people who don't donate on a regular basis, sorry.

I keep getting the letter through asking me to go and donate again.
But every time I get it, I've been ill within the previous two weeks, so I can't go >.>

here are not enough benefits for me to go do it in Sweden. All I get is like... 40 sek and a coupon for a free sandwich-snip-
More than we get in the UK.
Wish we got payed for it >.>

Already donating blood 4 times a year. That is the maximum for males in Sweden, for females it's only 3times a year.

Only takes 10mins to donate blood and it's often painfree as long as the needle is inserted right.. Had a nurse poking my arm with the needle a few times and that was somewhat painful and afterwards I looked like a heavy user with spasms..

How about this for a benefit; how would you feel if you or a loved one got in a accident and needed blood to survive surgery and there was no blood to be used because people don't see the "benefits" of donating blood.

several weeks qualifies as soon i would think.

as far as needles go, i'd much prefer getting the needle in the arm for blood donation as opposed to one in the mouth for novacaine(sp?) at the dentist. honestly i think very very few people are "good with needles", and i think those people are more "good at not focusing on it". i find it worst when u watch.

even if u hate needles you should try to tolerate it at least once a year, its for a good cause and theres no other way to get blood.

Last time someone tried sticking a needle in me it was an untrained nurse scrapping the needle against my bone. The only time someone will ever get near me with a needle ever again is someone asking to die.

I'm too lightweight to be allowed to donate so I don't really have this dilemma to ponder. I have needed a transfusion in the past though. Thank you to all you people out there willing to go through discomfort to save a stranger :)

Never. Donating, however,is a different matter entirely. I do that. Need to find out whether I can catch the next clinic.

Noooo.

Needles give me panic attacks just knowing I'm in a room with one or even the slightest threat of needles. There's no way I could donate blood or plasma without feeling supremely uncomfortable.

This... honestly, fuck needles.

I don't mind giving back a little, but does it have to be with a needle? I don't mind cutting my fingertip with a ceremonial dagger if that would work.

What do you mean convince? I am already a blood donor as well as an organ donor. I figure that I might as well start helping people by doing that. The free food and movie tickets don't hurt either.

Also, it's donate, not doning. I don't think doning is even a real word.

No. I react badly to people trying to stick a sharp object in me. VERY badly. The last doctor that tried to give me an immunisation got a boot to the face. Extreme, yes, but it got the point across. Would I have been better off getting immunised? Maybe, but I've had no problems so far and there was no way I was going to let someone stab me with anything. Its kinda an instinctual reaction to me. As such, even if I wanted to do the right thing, the second someone tried to stick a needle in me, things would get ugly. Now, if they sedated me and got everything done before they woke me up, I may think about it. Anything else, and there is no way in hell.
