Sure, we all have hate trains for things like Twilight, or other such but... Thats not really what I'm trying to say. I haven't yet seen a thread for books, so I propose to make one.

People of the Escapist, is reading something you do? If so, what is it? Fiction, non-fiction, whatever gets you going. Me, I like Sci-fi and Fantasy, more precisely Forgotten Realms, John Ringo, Weber, and Mercedes Lackey (and many, many others, being a zealous bibliophile). Anyone else like these, or other books? Heck, anyone have a really good reason for not loking books?
Do comics and graphic novels count? If so, then yes.

I don't read as much as I used to, but I still read a book every month or so.

Lord of the Flies is still the greatest book in the world.

I read, yes. I don't read as often as I want to, though. I read like a book a month. And even if I don't like the book, I need to finish it, even if I'm not forced to and it takes forever.

I tend to avoid genre fiction all together for some reason, prefering just general fiction. The only genre I can particularly stomach is detective fiction. I tend to dislike alot of the books recently recommended to me, like J-Pod or Cloud Atlas; books which keep getting praised by my generation.

I read quite a lot, though only in a few areas.

My fiction is made up almost exclusively of Manga and fiction I was forced to read as a student. Not that any of it was bad, but I'm a guy who likes his fiction to be more visually symbolic than literally (kind of like looking at paintings and trying to deconstruct the story behind them and all the hidden messages as well).

But my light reading is actually more in the realm of politcal science, with the final Bush at War book by Bob Woodward being my favoriate. I'm in the process of trying to aquire all four books and then reading them in succession, a process that will set me back about half a console in cash.

I read plenty, I read a novel a week for my major. It's hard to get into pleasure reading, but I try and make time.

I spent about 3 hours today buried in The Broker by Grisham.

So yes, I read.
I've read that!

Sadly its content has descended in to the pit of unremarkable story lines that all books that I think are unremarkable inevitably descend into.
I agree that it's not Grisham's best (that's either Bleachers or The Innocent Man), but it's still Grisham which makes it better than much of the rest of the tripe that fills the suspense/thriller aisle.

I'm a sucker for Tom Clancy and the like, also sci-fi (Neuromancer, Dune, Ringworld and the like) and political books (1984,Atlas Shrugged,The Prince, Communist Manifesto,Leviathan) Ah, hell, pretty much anything.

I've read all of Brian Keene's paperbacks, World War Z, all of the Hannibal books, The Mist, a ton of books on philosophy and religion, and RA Salvatore. I also read lots of other things, but those are the most memorable. I try to read at least an hour a day, I usually read a lot more.
