I don't respect literate adults that don't read books (he said using a not very literate double negative). (I say "literate" because some people have dyslexia, which of course must be a huge, perhaps insummountable, barrier to being able to read.) Some people say "I don't read books!" with a sneer and I think "idiot".

I live in a town that has a really small library which is so disappointing since where I live about 1/3rd of the time has a library system that was named best in the US multiple times. I just can't bring myself to buy something until I read it first ;)

But anyone who reads regularly and wants to keep a list of books that they've read should check out Shelfari:

http://www.shelfari.com/

I've gotten a lot of really good recommendations from them so it's definitely worth it.

I just picked up reading again last fall, I've read through 2 books since then and I'm currently reading Jon Krakauer's Under The Banner Of Heaven. When that one's read through, I might pick up his latest book Where Men Win Glory or start reading The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.

So yeah, I read.

Being an English Literature student means a fuckload of books, but it also means I don't get a lot of time to read books of my own choosing at the minute, so I decided to do my dissertation on Irvine Welsh (Trainspotting, Glue, Filth etc...) and now he's my favourite author.

I read a lot of non-fiction.

I'm quite the history nerd and a fan of biographies, so my interests lean toward those genres. Especially books based on ancient societies, religion (been a long-time Templars nerd), Asian and Mediterranean studies. For a time I wanted to go to Uni to study religion, languages and religious archaeology.

And no, I'm not even remotely a religious person, I'm more fascinated by how religion over the (thousands of) years has driven people/countries to both wonderful and horrible acts.

Since I learned how to read I can't remember but a few separate days when I haven't read at least a page or two from a book (I believe this thread is about reading books, not f.e. magazines and newspapers).
Right now I'm wading through G.R.R.Martin's A Feast for Crows with as an optional read Sun Tzu's The Art of War.
For the past three-or-four years I've been trying to read Joyce's Ulysses but after a while it always kind of pushes me away. I'm determined though, I will finish it some day and I will finish it with at least a faint conception of what the hell it really was meant to be about.

reading is like breathing - it's a requirement for life
Are you a philosopher?

I love to read, mostly fantasy, adventure, science fiction, genres that everyone likes. Never got into mystery books, though, because all children mystery books are rubbish.

I've just finished A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby, and it's superb, I really like his books.

I tend to read lots of stuff, a bit of a mix of everything.

right now i'm on The Silmarillion...
a damn fine read. But if you've got time (and money) and if you havent read those parts already, and if you don't mind waiting, read The Children of Hurin and Gondolin lays before you read their respective chapters in The Silmarillion. They aren't perfect but by golly they're captivating and, dare I say, dandy.
all right then, if i find it near where i'm located...

At the moment I'm reading Arthur Conan Doyle: A life in letters. It's really interesting. He was even more interesting than the detective he created, he wrote so many letters and the missing bits are fleshed out with what we already know from other biographies and records. Really interesting guy, if you like Sherlock Holmes or biographies in general then it's really really good.
