Way I see it is that something is only racist if there was genuine hate behind it
No. Intent isn't important; what matters is the actual content. "It wasn't meant to be racist" isn't a valid defense if the work ends up being racist anyway and is right up there with "But some of my best friends are X" in the "shit that don't matter" category of arguments.
That's an overly sensitive way of looking at it don't you think? Some people have different perceptions of what constitutes racism. Like generalisation for example. Some people think that in the right context, it is racist, and some people think it's logical.

I think the only way to properly determine if someone is racist is by their intent.

In relation to the original debate, we have no idea of this writers true intentions, so we don't know anything.

Wow...
These days some people complain anything is racist.

Sorry, going to watch some real news like I don't know...
anything else.

Other than that, do they even understand Tiny Tina? or did they automatically hear Dat Ass and scream racist?

I'm a little more shocked by the fact that a fictional 13 year old girl that is a Psychopathic, mass murdering, genius with severe Childhood Abandonment issues and also has an insane amount of knowledge with Weaponry and Bombs.

What's that? She used the word "Badonkadonk"?
Just that. It's a-ok for her to torture the killer of her parents and constantly blow up stuff but hey... don't you dare to use "typical slang".
But even then, why is it racist? How do her sentences discriminate black people because their black? I don't see the connection, may someone who really thinks this is racist explain to me?

Ummm, this isn't racist. This is Ash Burch. This is basically a HAWP special about Borderlands, except with swearing and rationality from Anthony to balance out the universe.

I find myself reminded of a famous[small]*[/small] Norwegian author who, on being confronted with a controversial statement made by a character in one of his books, replied something along the lines of: "I cannot be held accountable for everything that numbskull says!"

[small]*Famous in Norway, that is. I'm pretty sure one would need to be Norwegian in order to have heard of him.[/small]

It's racist to think only one race is 'allowed' to portray ANYTHING. It would be considered racist (as well) if Tiny Tina were black.
She speaks with that particular "ghetto-euphemism" which anyone could pick up just listening to stupid rap songs. Which at an age-appropriate impressionable person would DO.

Personally, I find Tiny Tina to be absolutely adorable. None of her dialogue comes out as forced for the sake of "just to be in the game."
All in all, she's JUST a kid. In the Torgue DLC, she whines about getting the wrong kind of cookies. She has tea parties with stuffed animals. All this despite being stuck on a planet full of murderers, bandits and monsters.

I think Anthony handled that pretty good. I'm glad he at least accepts that it could have been offensive to some people and thinks about what they say, he doesn't immediately dismiss them. On the other hand, I sure hope he won't seriously consider changing Tiny Tina for the next game because of this.

Because white people can't be enculutrated into what has been a primarily black culture (or whatever you want to call it)? The only racism here is if they were doing this as a joke. "Oh look the white girl is acting black!" is a racist joke. I don't know if that was a goal or not.

Tiny Tina uses "street speak", Ebonics, it's not actually a race thing; It's a culture thing. It's not like an African click language, it's American slang. Also, I wasn't aware that saying things like "fine ass" whatever were street lingo.

I have never ever thought of Tiny Tina being racist...she's annoying yes, but racist? That word gets thrown around a lot so it's hard to know anymore if anything is actually racist.

Wait black people talk like Tiny Tina?

I thought she was a caricature, an exaggeration.
I just thought she was a psycho 13 year old girl living on a desert planet, building explosives, who's entire vocabulary comes from interacting with the various uneducated scum and villains that seek out her services. Had she been portrayed any other way I'd have cried bullshit.

She's not racist.

She's a psychotic and an explosion happy teenager. I seriously don't expect her to have the best usage of language and she's living around crazy bandits who don't speak properly either. I wouldn't like her if she didn't talk and act like that since it would seem off from her character's background.

The only time she even talks "normal" is towards the end of the tea party mission, and I was a little creeped out by her tone.

Its kind of funny, seeing as ALMOST EVERYBODY in the U.S. speaks like that in one way or another and at one time or another

Its not racist, the people assuming its racist are -_-

Besides, other than those two phrases, how the hell do you get a racist out of a psycho, crazy explosives-obsessed 13 year old girl who lives alone on a desert planet?

Shockingly, colloquial manners of speaking are not racially or genetically transmitted, but rather develop among groups of people living in certain environments. As a result, the dialect of English commonly referred to as 'Ebonics', while it is spoken primarily by people of African descent, is not and has never been exclusively so. To deny that reality and attempt to assert any sort of exclusive tie between race and dialect is to be an ignorant bigot who busily reinforces cultural stereotypes.

The only answer these people deserve is a volume on linguistics travelling at a high velocity.

Personally, I think this is proof we have stopped wanting to actually try and fix things and are just looking for reasons to hate. This isn't about furthering a medium anymore, this has turned into a shit fest for some privileged little snot to justify having a sociology degree.
This is what every debate over racism/sexism/any-ism is about now. I haven't heard anyone cry "racism" or "sexism" over something that wasn't absolutely arbitrary in over ten years. It's getting ridiculous the things they're coming up with to whine about.

the people saying its racist are racist because I thought she was speaking Gangsta lingo, never crossed my mind.
