Meh, the only reviews I'd really take heed of is Rock Paper Shotgun anyway, who I mostly agree with, but not always. (Fallout New Vegas being a good example of where I completely disagreed.)

I agree with this point, if there's a place that makes you know its "reviews" are just opinions it's RPS.

Exactly, they say "I like this this and this, because I like this in games." So, I can assume if I like the latter this in games, I might like it too.

Reviewers who present their reviews as objective fact are just silly, and an arbitrary score tacked on to most is pretty representative of that.

It's amusing that if IGN give a game a high score they're classed as "payed off", whilst if they go against the norm and give a lower score they're classed as not handing out a high score because they weren't payed off; and if they give a game, a now middling score, of 7 or 8 they're being "safe".

They can't win...

That's because IGN has a bad reputation. And with good reason. Quite frankly ANY other reviewer has more credibility than IGN.

How has IGN elicited a bad reputation?

Yeah, I hear that a lot. However, I don't hear any substantiation whatsoever for those accusations.

Currently has 13 positive reviews, 4 mixed and 2 negative on Metacritic. And that's before everyone's online and any patches they make. Sounds to me like we're looking at a solid game and I'm glad I pre-ordered.

All of the bad reviews are for the Xbox version, which is pretty much the inferior one anyway.

Well, at least you can play online with that version.

OT: As some one above said, reviewers seem to be going in with a CoD mindset. And this game does not look like CoD. I'm just gonna reserve judgment till I play it. Hopefully it'll be as good as it looks.

I have the preorder, so I'm getting it anyway. I actually read the IGN review, and the flaws that they took points away from the game from weren't such a big deal for me.

I don't know why it took people as long as now to realise Brink sucks, it has always looked shit. I remember watching a video of it all the way fuck back and it was the same damn map they showed in some of their most recent videos. In my opinion, the gun gameplay looks dull, the parkour is grossly overrated, the maps are depressing to look at and the customisation is useless.

I feel quite bad for the developers that it has been received poorly, hopefully the durhurhype crowd will at least give them some compensation for their efforts.

I think you can guess that no, I won't be getting it.

I'm probably not, although if a few friends recommend it then I will. I was excited for this game and I use a +/- 2 scale for IGN. The game can be as good as 2 above what IGN gives it and at its worst is 2 below the given score. It seems to have worked fine for me in the past and has never lead me astray.
