American here
-Vietnam is not too recent at all, there are already movies made about the current Iraq war.
-Everybody with a functioning brain knows we were the bad guys, if you don't by now, you're ignorant of the matter, or know about the war and are very stupid.
-The tales of Vietnam veterans being spit on is largely urban myth and rumor.
-Playing both sides would be a must, and there should be cutscenes of American unrest at home, secret meetings and villages in both Vietnams and Cambodia amongst guerillas and normal villages, and a minigame (like Nazi zombies) in America where you play a protestor who finally shot back against police brutality, and you nail as many as you can before you get killed.

I would play it or at least try it. It could be very cool.

A WW1 CoD could be very cool as well...

It sure would be nice with a Call of Duty: Vietnam but why not something from WW1. Yes, I know that this debate has reach a stalemate just like the whole war but didn't the attacks gain moveabality when the americans started pooring in around 1917?
More like the other way round. The germans broke though and the US arrived just in time to stop them. Most people wouldn't like WWI. Only fixed machine guns, few tanks, hardly any even semi-auto weapons. WWI would only feature in something like timesplitters.
On topic: Vietnam is not too recent. Tunnel rats just came out and it was set in vietnam. It's like saying Cod 4 couldn't be set in the present day.
Might want to check your facts about the Americans stopping the German 1918 offensive. There were some American troops in France but nowhere near as many as the British and French, however the Germans did attack to try and force a settlement before the American forces could build up but that wouldn't be until 1919 at the earliest. So if it makes you happy the Americans did win WW1, in a way :p

Oh and as for a WW1 CoD, it could be done as there was fighting in the Middle East, Balkans, Italy, Turkey and the Eastern Front which was a lot more mobile than the static trench warfare on the Western front. I'd quite like a WW1 era Total War.

Why do they have to be about a real war? Why cant they just be like CoD4, where it is a myriad of different missions in a fictional war?
I totally agree. When CoD was constrained by actual facts in WWII, the plot suffered.

Wasn't America the bad guys in Nam? I can probably assume that from the severe lack of information that is taught to us about it.
I think you'll find that a black and white good guy vs. bad guy dynamic is a bit too simplistic an explanation for any conflict, especially one from the Cold War.

I doubt having a game where you give everyone cancer and flames for breakfast, lunch and dinner will be very popular.
And don't forget the mid morning snack of napalm.

Nah that war is stupid, just a bunch of americans attacking a country that has nothing to do with them and they had no reason to go there in the first place, then they lost. Wouldnt be fun to run around a jungle geting pwned by vietnamese then heroicly ending the game by losing -_-

I want a WW1 CoD!!!
Which would be more fun because...?

I'd rather run around in a jungle that sit in a trench for hours.
Who said you had to be America anyway?

I think a vietnam CoD would be awesome. If done right, and with a decent story. Say, start in 63 as a 'special adivsor' and move forward from there. Realistic napalm effect would be damn sweet as well.
You wouldn't even have to be an American. You could be Australian =D

Hah, me too! There is a distinct lack of WW1 games, some would say for a good reason, however I would be interested in all the trench warfare, going 'over the top' with bolt action rifles and all that.

As for a Vietnam CoD, I wouldn't mind seeing one. I love Vietnam movies and I'm surprised more games haven't used Vietnam as a starting point. I don't think a Vietnam game would be globally popular like WW2 games though, as a Brit I can say that not a lot of people know much about the war over here, I learnt in history lessons but Vietnam isn't on the curriculum every year >.<

No. I wouldn't like it. And I also don't think that Americans really still like the war that brought them so much shame. Poor bastards.
If any of the films are to go by, the American weren't the nicest bunch at the time. Then again, media is media, and therefore pretty moot to all points.

I'd play it, but only because I've yet to play a COD game that's put a step wrong.

I never thought of it like that. I never thought that my country or the USA could be the bad guys in a war but come to think of it it was a bit like that.
I know its weird Right? I also think its odd that information is being withheld from us. It's not to the extent that we can't find the info if we looked for it but, it sure as hell isn't taught to us.

The US lost a lot of troops in a short time stopping the 18 offensive, this was why the US returned to isolationism after the war (and a major reason they were late for WW2). I'm not saying they won WWI, that would belittle the sacrifice of britain and France. I'm just saying they took a lot of causilties in a very short time.
Hadn't though of that for a WWI cod. I like the idea of the middle east, chance for a good story. You could play as lawrence of arabia or something. Still face the very limited weapons though but it's a much better idea than say the somme.
