So I was wondering, what is the big problem with this?

Staying in a fixed location and waiting for enemies to show up so you have the advantage of seeing them before they see you and also be in a better stance while shooting. If I sit behind a crate and wait for you to walk by or I hide in the grass and wait for enemies to show up, why is that so wrong? It's just another battlefield tactic after all, and I'm not exploiting bugs or anything, am I?

I get a lot of crap for just sitting still for 15sec-2min, getting called a camper noob when the waiting finally pays of and I get a kill. I have never had a problem with people doing this, and I really need to know why some hate my guts for it!:s When I run really agressively around I do poorly on most games. I need to do slow and controlled advances, checking every and all corners and making sure nobody is flanking me. So I often stop, get down and wait for a little while to see if I am being followed. Many times this pays off, but I end up being called a camper. One thing is in for example counter-strike and the last guy on the enemy team is camping in a hidden location and you just can't find him... But most other games have players constantly respawn, so what is the biggy?

Thanks!^^

EDIT: So it would seem most don't really have a problem with it, but lets clarify. No one likes spawncamping, that there is no doubt about. I am likely to quit a game if I get spawnkilled multiple times in for example an uncapable base in a BF game, but in a capable one, what is there to expect? The enemy are assaulting you, it's hard to do anything about that cause it's part of the game! But anyway, spawncamping = mostly uncool...

People camping in the same spot all round... So they are a drawback to the team cause they don't join in the fight, but if we are talking about the kind that just sit there and get loads of kills let my tell you this; grenades (and many said this) are made for campers. USE THEM! Also, if you get killed by the same guy in the same spot all the time, stop being a retard and go another way... That is your fault, not the camper!

The camping I was talking about is the "using tactical locations, defend objectives, using the good old rule of crossfire" and such. It's really not a bad thing to do, it's normal battlefield tactics in real life and I don't get why every player have got to be a super-agressive one online? I like knowing whats going on so I often hide in a cluster of trees and check whats going on and where my friends and enemies are before I shoot or move on, I'm slow but I do my best to help the team.

Hiding seems to be frowned upon too, and using stealth is that a bad thing? I mean, sneaking around the flank, hide until the enemy pops into sight and kill him? Because you can't see your enemy said enemy is a noob? Why don't we just go back to good old 1800's and stand on a line taking shots at eachother! First headshot wins!

It's no problem. Apparently if you don't run around 100% of the time you're a bad player. Seems to me if knowing everyone is going to be running around not checking corners then camping is just good sense.

It's not so much waiting as a tactic, it's waiting where other players respawn that people hate because it's not fun at all.

I'll camp when I find a good, defensible position, but I won't spawncamp or any of that bullshit.

I personally don't camp or have a problem with it, Unless they are camping in a respawn point or something of that nature.

It's cheap. Hiding and waiting for your enemy, kill then stay in the same spot?
Not cool man, not cool.
That's funny because your avatar is Leonidas. Those spartans sure did move around a lot at Thermopylae.

I get accused of camping all the time in MW2, I hear someone moving, I hide and wait for them leave cover to kill them. Who in their right mind walks into the line of sight of another player knowingly? I usually tell them to stop playing if they can't handle campers, the killcam even tells you where they are and hitting a stationary target isn't difficult last time I tried.

There's good camping, and there's bad camping.

Take TF2 for example.

Being a demo and placing a bunch of stickys to foil the enemy's escape route = good camping.

Being a pyro and waiting right outsite the enemy's safehouse to annoyingly set them on fire = bad camping.

I only approve sniper campers (I'm not a sniper player though). Other then that I wish campers would go away. Where is the fun in crouching in one place for 20 minutes or so and waiting for someone to pass by?

i have to agree there, on games like COD i have no problem with it (unless they stay their the entire match) because Camp spawning is quite hard on that game, but on games like HALO or TF2 or even a farcry game it gets really annoying

I can have respect for the snipers who sit in one spot and pick people off, they are actually fighting; its the people who grab a SMG and sit in a corner waiting for people to walk by that piss me off. Holding a choke point is one thing but hiding is a ***** move.

I camp. I can't keep up with the reflexes of people who play tf2 all day every day so how do I get around it? I get the Cloak and Dagger and I sit in a corner until the perfect opertunity to get a kill.

I dont like it i mean its ok if you have to defend a spot like in sabatoge, but team deathmath and deathmatch its annoying. Campers usually are terrible too i get killed by one and get the final score and they sat there the whole time and got three kills. I run around the map once you start getting the hang of the maps find a bottlneck/simple part of the map and from that point move in one direction so basically everyone your attacking is in front of you or when the map branches off.

Edit: my way seems pretty... honorless, half the time i catch people while their back is turned busy with other people.

It is really annoying but it depends what game type you are playing. A gametype where one team or both have something to defend is no problem but something like TDM and FFA is pretty annoyinng considering neither side has something to defend except lets say the highground and thats no reason to hide in the corner and shoot some one who walks by.
