The easy part about dealing with campers is that you know exactly where they're goling to be. Occasionally, campers will find a spot at the end of a hallway where you can't reach them at close range (a lot of counter-strike maps come to mind), but that's really just a flaw in the map design.

I'll agree with many others on this thread; camping is fine, unless you spawn camp. At that point, you're taking advantage of an unfair situation over which your opponents have no control. Normal camping I don't find to be particularly evil, I've just never been much good at it. More often than not I tend to pick a position that nobody goes to, then, after waiting for about a minute, I decide to leave, and I get killed immediately. When I do succeed, it's usually by accident; I kill a guy, crouch and reload, and somebody happens to wander by, and the situation repeats itself however many times.

And admittedly, I do suck at killing good campers, especially when it becomes a team-coordinated effort by my opponents.

Oh dang, forgot this was a gaming forum, and thought this thread was about pitching a tent and getting rained on.

Erm...I don't see the big deal, unless they're glitching.

i HATE spawn campers, they make me RAGE, but else wise if youre sniping its hard to keep moving around and usualy quite foolish, and most people will call you a camper just for not having the good sense to run around using the sniper rifle as an SMG >:{

Camping is an essential part of the game, spawn camping is being an ass. I camp sometimes, if only for a few seconds because I know that the whole enemy team is going to run through one point of the map.
yep once i was on a team with retards on bothh sidees me being the only intellegent person the enemy team would run up behind our asses and blow them clean off every time

There are two types of players

1) Kill a lot and be killed a lot
2) Don't die and kill some other people

One is more gamey more "fun", the other is more realistic. I want my K/D ratio to be infinity, is that ok with you?

I see it as a tactic, a good one as strategic defence is something any military force needs to keep in mind. Besides if we are going to play soldier we might as well behave like them. One simple reason: Trial and error have taught the military what works. Taking cover, slow tactical advances or 'camping' are all things that work.

To the point normal soldiers despise snipers, the master of the camp.

Now... if there is an objective then camping can be a bad thing if it is happening so much the team can not complete said objective. If you need to retrieve something, capture a point or kill someone then hiding in a fox hole isn't going to be enough to achieve the objective in question. In those cases camping becomes a liability, not at strength.

Spawn camping is different though. It is exploiting a bug that designers really need to find ways to prevent. It is cheating, simple, but shouldn't be linked to a strategic defence.

Camping is legitimate. The people who camp generally don't get as many kills as the aggressive players with skill. At the same time though they don't get nearly as many deaths either.

As far a MW2 is concerned, because of the kill cam camping is a losing strategy. Every time i ambush kill anyone i move to a different location because one fo the first things i do when i get killed by a camper is head back for some sweet revenge.

It's not camping, it's tactical positioning.
If someone constantly uses the same place over and over, they become an easy target for me tbh.

The idea of getting aggravated over camping is laudable. So someone is staying in one location? In any competent game there are half a dozen ways to remove them. Its not a problem. Also, I particularly enjoy it when (in MW2) I am defending a bomb zone from being defused, manage to kill a couple. Only to be screamed at about how much of a *insert any swear word* camper I am.

meh. Camping is fine (bearing in mind i play Tf2 a lot.) If it is actually helping your team achieve their main goal. An example of this is snipers on 2fort. If they keep the enemy snipers busy, or even those attempting to cap the intel, then fine, im cool with that. however, i think that camping in the sewers in completely rediculous, unless its an engi/demo. tha mount of times I have seen soldiers hang around the enemies sewers attempting to get cheap kills is unbelievable.

Oh, and people dont try to spawn camp against me. I play pyro.

So I was wondering, what is the big problem with this?

Staying in a fixed location and waiting for enemies to show up so you have the advantage of seeing them before they see you and also be in a better stance while shooting. If I sit behind a crate and wait for you to walk by or I hide in the grass and wait for enemies to show up, why is that so wrong? It's just another battlefield tactic after all, and I'm not exploiting bugs or anything, am I?

I get a lot of crap for just sitting still for 15sec-2min, getting called a camper noob when the waiting finally pays of and I get a kill. I have never had a problem with people doing this, and I really need to know why some hate my guts for it!:s When I run really agressively around I do poorly on most games. I need to do slow and controlled advances, checking every and all corners and making sure nobody is flanking me. So I often stop, get down and wait for a little while to see if I am being followed. Many times this pays off, but I end up being called a camper. One thing is in for example counter-strike and the last guy on the enemy team is camping in a hidden location and you just can't find him... But most other games have players constantly respawn, so what is the biggy?

Thanks!^^
Here are the problems with campers-

On free-for-all games, well, what if everybody camped? There would be no game. The justification "it's a valid tactic" fails because it's only a valid tactic if a minority of players is doing it. Otherwise, it's just a waste of everybody's time.

That's why *good* games are designed to make camping ineffective.

On some team games- Even if your personal K/D ratio is higher, if you're not getting a _lot_ of kills, then you're probably bringing down your team's K/D ratio by not helping them more directly. That's why I don't try sniping a lot in Halo- I'm not good enough to justify leaving my team otherwise outnumbered 3-4.

I agree. The idea of getting aggravated over camping is worthy of praise.

While I'm not a fan of camping in general. I often forget who or what killed me while re-spawning, so I forget where they are, and they just kill me over and over. But that's more my problem with memory and not camping.

Spawn-Campers are fun. If you can get around them, getting the kill is satisfying and sometimes hilarious.
