Poll: Can males and females simply "just be friends"?

This may seem like a silly question, but I want you to really think about it.

Note: I am not asking if males and females are capable of having a friendship. We all know they can. What I am asking is that do you believe it is possible for males and females to be close friends without one person having feelings for the other at some stage throughout the duration of the friendship?

Remember, I am talking about close personal friends here, the ones you share everything in your life with, not just acquaintances or even good friends.

The reason I am asking this is that my closest friend just told me he had feelings for me. This has completely thrown the dynamics off and it is nothing short of awkward now. It got me thinking and I have never seen a close friendship between a male and a female where at least at one stage, feelings weren't involved.

Im doing a computer science degree and there is only me and one other girl in my year, so if I cant make friends with guys id be pretty lonely lol

I have to make it clear people: I am not talking about who you are mates with. Everyone has friends who are the other sex. I am talking about close friends here. "best friends" if you will.

I have had friends that are boys since like... first grade. We are really close and I wouldn't trade them for the world. I don't think at any point we were ever interested in on another, I was too busy not giving a damn about love and they were too busy looking at some of my friends.

Yes of course. But after a while i tend to get feeling for said lady but i repress them as well.

I have a lot of female friends. And loads more I never ever want to date because a lot are depressive, bitchy, or annoying. Some (for lack of a better word) are ugly.

But if you throw out everyone convention of how your supposed to treat ladies, and just treat them like people, than yes.

Honestly, I don;t see why you had to ask this question.

The answer to this is no, by the way. Friendship is as much as a feeling and love.

Is she unattractive? If not, then no. Because at some point in time, the guy will picture bending her over something. It's not on purpose, but once that idea gets into our heads, we want to try and see if we can make it a reality.

However, if she is ugly, well then yeah, there's no sexual tension on the guy's end at all.

And women will decide in the first 5 minutes whether or not you are in the friend zone. If she isn't into you by then, she will never be into you.

One of my best friends is a guy. There have never been any "romantic" feelings between us.

Sure they can when theres utterly no attraction I have a few female friends who despite being lovley people I would not touch with a 10 foot barge pole theres utterly nothing appealing about them to me physicaly.

Then again define feelings I've slept with a few friends and never went beyond that they know I'm not the sort of guy that does relationships or atleast for now and the forseeable future have no intrest whatsoever yet they are still important to me it's not always so one dimensional.
