I think they already have. Or at least no one complains about it anymore. After God of War III and Uncharted 2, they have had some very good titles to get themselves back into contention. They are still at the bottom of the bunch, but not by the wide margin they had at the beginning.

I'd like to think I'm fairly unbiased, since I ditched my xbox 360 for a ps3 sometime ago (well, my xbox died after I'd lost interest in it, and I wanted a PS3). That said, I don't think the PS3 will ever outgrow it's bad rep. Don't get me wrong, it did what sony wanted it to do flawlessly (win the blu-ray vs HD-DVD fight) but it still has a pretty weak game library, the controllers haven't evolved since the PS1 and the system itself is still too awkward for many developers to bother with. It's my no means a great system, but it will always be remember as the system that "sold out" with it's initial release of about 500 units.

I think it already has shed that reputation. In fact, I think it happened a long time ago. The PS3 is now the system to beat in my opinion, and I only own an Xbox 360.

Sony's pro American/Western comments and their ciriticism of the unwillingness of game stors in japan to stock western games has done a lot to stoke good will over here I think. I would buy one and a bunch of games if I had the cash.

Also, have they even pushed the PS3 to its limit yet? I still remember when I first played Final Fantasy XII on PS2 and how amazing the graphics in the intro cut scene were compared to other PS2 games...

...Wii is the kids' console...
Oh piss off it is. Im getting tired of everyone saying "Wii's for kids". Have any of you actually USED the Wii with a good game, Like Monster Hunter Tri, or Tenshu? you cant say that breaking peoples necks, arms, stabbing, slashing blood everyone isn't a kids game. "yayyyy!! That man is pouring red cordial!!"
Just to make it clear: I was reciting the consoles' reputations I've heard, not that I actually believe them... I haven't even played Wii for an amount of time or with enough games I'd deem suffice to judge it as a serious gaming device.

I think the criticism of the ps3 is its price but it's generally regarded as the most reliable console of the generation. Wii tried something new but was kind of let down by simply lacking the kind of power you need to play this gen's games. 360 is probably the more powerful by an insignificant amount but I'd trade a tiny bit of processing power for a considerable load more reliability any day.

It still has a bad rep? It was perfectally understandable when it first came out, due to the high price tag that only seemed to exist because of the Blu-Ray player, which many were skeptical of at the time. Not to mention the lack of exclusives, no rumble, obvious motion controller cash-in...

But now it's a damn fine system. I can think of plenty of good exclusives, the price tag has dropped, good and free online, and rumble has returned. I still don't personally care about the Blu-Ray since I'm still on a standard TV, but I see the appeal.

The PS3 has a bad rep? Is that just because of the price?

I am completely and utterly happy with my PS3 from the day I bought it on launch day!
I think "The bad rep" was the 2 years of the ps3 having little exclusives and a high price tag, but I bought mine in early 09 so I honestly can't say.
weirdly enough, I'm looking at the numbers and nov 2006 to nov 2008 PS3 had a LOT of great exclusives:
-Motorstorm 1 & Pacific Rift
-Resistance 1 & 2
-Uncharted
-Ratchet and Clank Tools
-LittleBigPlanet
-MGS4

360 exclusives Nov 2005 to Nov 2007: Halo 3... Crackdown... err, that's it.

But PS3's price, no doubt it was dear, but Sony puts a lot of effort into their first party games generating exclusives. But I still think Sony over-extended itself this generation in desperate bid to out-perform xbox 360.

why pay $60 a month to play?
You mean per year, not per month. If you don't, then I would like you to start paying me the low low price of $40 a month and I will make sure you are always hooked up (don't trust Microsoft). Hell, I'll even by you a new 360 slim to get started. Just sign this five year contract...

Trust me, I'm a stranger on the internet.

I'll pay you 4,800 in advance if you drop the monthly thing. ;D I know its double what I would pay but I hate installments.

I'm sorry but a lot of people that would rather have sex with the PS3 rather than an actual women.

...

With cake.
Well I guess if you can fit it in a USB slot you'll want something that won't laugh when you take your pants off ;)

I thought it was the 360 that had a bad reputation, which I don't think it'll grow out of anytime soon.

EDIT: And the Wii, among serious gaming crowds.

I haven't heard anyone badmouthing PS3 at all.
because theres nothing really wrong with it.. i crashed like once or twice, and thats me admitting its only weakness which is an oddity in general. awsome exclusives free online great graphics, blu ray, no red ring of death... who gave it a bad reputation? NOTE: i know the 360 doesn't have too many problems with the rrod anymore but playstation never did... i don't mind the 360 its certainly a respectable system but were defending the ps3 here...

Didn't the PS2 have a really bad launch library too? How'd that end up doing again?

To be honest, the PS3 is starting to interest me more than the 360. Both are still great consoles though, and even the Wii gets some playtime.
