Yep I can drive. Well not anymore anyway. Got my second DUI a few months back after flipping my car (there was a badger in the road) and now I'm forced to cycle everywhere, annoyingly. Passed my test first time though.

I couldn't be bothered for a while so I'm a late starter. But

I'm just about to finish my log book but I would have to wait a few months because of a six month rule to stop people lying about doing it.

I'm in the glorious profession of pizza delivery driving, so I should hope I can drive. >_>;

I'm in the US, and I started learning to drive in Ohio, but moved to Indiana before I got my license, so I'm not sure where the lines are different between these two states regarding the age you can get a permit. In Ohio, it was 16. I hear driving lessons are part of the school curriculum in some parts of the US (though I've never actually SEEN this), but it wasn't at my school, so I took driver's ed outside of that. Driver's ed isn't *required*, but passing it can net a lower insurance rate, and sometimes waive the on-road portion of the license exam.
I have a Cougar, automatic shifting. I WANT to learn to drive stick, and my dad tried to teach me at one point, but all I managed to learn to do was peel out and mark up the driveway. >_>; imo, that's a bit much to learn when you're first learning to do regular on-road driving, since you're paying attention to a billion other things you've never had to pay attention to before. Now that I have quite a few years of driving under my belt, I think I could add in something like needing to shift without it distracting me from paying attention to the road, my speed, the other drivers, traffic lights, etc.

As a kid I was enamored with those Power Wheels cars and any of the go-kart/kiddie-F1 race cars at amusement parks. I even drew up plans (as a kid would) to build my own. XD First ACTUAL(ish) driving came from using the riding lawn mower. I got the chance to drive some manner of motor (not really-)vehicle, with the side effect of actually getting the lawn mowed. When I was done, I go to speed across the yawn with the blades off and in whatever gear was marked with the dashing rabbit (I guess they assume people who use riding lawn mowers don't understand numbers).

Interest stories? I've spun out on ice a lot... (gods I HATE driving on fucking ice. Especially when I need to get to work, but it's too late for any of the snow plows to be assed to clear off the roads until the morning rush). Once on a 3-lane highway... I spun out over 2 of the 3 lanes, and somehow hit nothing and ended up back in the lane I started, facing the same direction. o_O I drove 15mph the rest of the way to work, fuck anyone behind me who was pissed at that.
Another time I was on one of those 4-lane roads divided by traffic islands... I was trying to pass the person in front of me, ended up spinning out and into the one section of divider that WASN'T there to make way for a turn lane. That was oddly lucky. o_o

Aaaand... I totalled my most beloved car thanks to little cement post too short to see from the driver's seat, in a very odd place in a parking lot. It's been over a year and I still miss that car. TT^TT (It was only a little Neon Sport, but it was just so... perfect.) Someday when all rich and successful (LOL), I'm gonna buy another car just like it.

my god this was an unnecessarily long post. o_O

I drive, Got my license a year and a half ago, at 18 which is the legal limit here in Finland. I drive with my parents car (a Toyota from 1997), which is manual, but only to football (soccer for you Americans) practices because I live in such a small town so I prefer the bike.

I passed after 2 years of starting my lessons, spent bout 5 months on lessons, quit for a year then started back up as soon as my theory certificate was about to run out

Yeah I can drive, Ive got a car with insurance and road tax mot and all that expensive crap. A nice reliable Fiat Punto ELX when I just turned 19. I even got breakdown cover and I love being able to drive, it's just great having that freedom

Just passed my driver's test (in Ireland) :D

I'm a cautious, conscientious driver and I pride myself on no accidents/injuries.

That said, I regularly splat pedestrians on Crackdown.
Funny how that works, eh? :p

I can drive just fine, and could get my license any time I want to. I've had that chance for almost a full year now.

Do I want to? No. Do I have any real reason to? No.

Therefore, I haven't gotten it yet. I've only had to drive a few times, and it was with an adult in the car anyway.

Granted, it was still illegal because he was drunk, but that's not the point. I would have to have been pulled over for the cops to tell...

From the somewhat popular thread-maker of "Can you swim?", I bring to you this new piece of crap thread.

At what age did you learn to drive, and at what age is it legal for you to do so in your country?
I ask you this because in Romania you can learn from the age of 18, but I'm learning now after almost 2 years of waiting.
Here everyone's like :"I need to drive a car". But in my little town everything is within walking distance and there's no need for a car. Actually because everyone want's to show off what car they have the streets are overcrowded. Till now I figured that if I learned how to drive, one of 2 things would have happened:
1. I'd learn an not drive at all(because of no need for it) and forget all my training, and lose confidence.
2. I'd drive quite often, but at an average of 15 miles per hour, and just pollute and lose time.

Now that I'm moving to a city, driving skills would come in handy + now I can have a car of my own.

Oh, and because we're on this topic: have are the procedures of getting a driving licence in your country? What type of car do you own? Do you use manual, or automatic(here automatic is considered an unneeded luxury)? An are there any driving stories you wish to tell?
Got my learners license at 16, where I was allowed to drive if anybody with a class 5 license was with me. At 18 I got my license and began driving my dad's old truck to school. (The laws have changed since then) I Now drive a manual Toyota Corolla.

I've had to purchase my own vehicles aswell. Some people come from well to do families that were given a car. I however had to pay for my car's throughout my time. Btw, never buy a Toyota Tercel 88-91. The fuel injected carb is complete trash. Also, take the time for a car inspection. If somebody is selling you a vehicle and wont wait for the (atleast 40 point) inspection...the car is a lemon anyways. Probably has vegitable oil in it to look cleaner, or the bottoms rusted.

If I were you I'd take long country drives with friends. Learn the highways...or major commutes. Then learn a city...hell, hit up a pub in a city...a car is about freedom. Get to the Safe point of experiance (Timid-Good-Adventurous-Safe), and you will be more than fine.

I'm 16 so in 4 months I'll be able to learn how to drive. But I can drive terribly if that is what you're asking.

I'm an amazing driver, truth be told. I've managed to evade two separate accidents-in-progress taking place directly in front of me, and I've never had even a minor collision. The only issues I ever have consist of being able to park my limousine-length extended cab truck in plaza parking spots, because going perpendicular when you're surrounded on all sides by potential insurance nightmares, a lot of drive-reverse-drive-reverse-drive-reverse is going to occur.

Thanks, Gran Turismo! :D

Got my license a couple of months ago, at 17 and a bit years old (live in Australia). Parents then went halves on a second hand car. Living on a farm means I could drive a car since I was about 10.

I'm an Aussie with my P1's. I really should get my P2's but I can't be bothered. If I got them as soon as I could, I'd be almost on my full licence by now... Oh well.

I can technically drive, it's just not legal, as I don't have a permit or license. My mom has let me drive down the road though, as long as it's not on a main road.

Learning. I mean I can drive safely etc but I'm still ironing out some apparently bad habits that will get me marked down on my test.
