Here in Oz, you get your Learner's at 16, keep it for at least a year (while racking up 120 hrs in [in NSW at least]), go onto your Red Ps (probationary license, 90km speed limit, other restrictions) for one year, Green Ps for two more years (100km).
Got my Learners at 16, my reds just before i turned 18 and my greens last week. Two more fucking years before I can get my full license.
All I have to say is grarghblargh. Got my Ls when I was 16, then proceeded to do about 10 hours of driving over a year (due to many instances of "You can drive next time, I don't feel like letting you drive right now" and also much laziness on my part), picked up somewhat the following year, and now, another 6 months down the track and 18, still no license, only got about 60 hours up total. This is causing me much grief with my already somewhat farcical social life.
I drive quite well. I've never been pulled ever, I've never hit anything and I have never been caught speeding driven faster than the posted speed limit.
Saskatchewan, I've been a reasonably good boy... Can I get my full drivers license now? Please?
People can legally drive here at 16 with some restriction and freely at 18. I'm 20 and still have let to get my license, though I am learning. When I';m at campus I never really need to go anywhere (meals are provided and I don't buy much) so I never needed to drive and didn't.
My one experience behind the wheel involved a stickshift lurching up a muddy forest road with a ravine on one side and a rocky cliff on the other. Needless to say, I was rather traumatized, and am in no hurry to learn. I'll probably do it next spring, though.
I can drive. Legally and everything!
I got my permit at...erm. Seventeen? Eighteen? Must have been eighteen, because I renewed it when I was nineteen and took my test two weeks later.
I'm not that great of a driver, though, and my car ('71 Vega) has a dead fuel pump and no insurance. Needless to say, my license doesn't see much use.
Here in Germany you can start learning how to drive and acquire your license at 17. However, should you get your license at that age you may only drive around while in the company of an experienced driver (read: someone who's had their license for a few years already); once you're 18 this constraint is lifted. Other than that, the process is pretty much what you'd expect - a legal minimum of certain driving lessons that need to be completed, a mountain of paperwork and a theoretical and a practical test. All things considered I think I paid about ?1250.
I drive a stick shift and never learned how to operate anything else, so I can't really say if I like manual or automatic better, but I've had my license for almost 5 years now, and with nearly 50.000km under my belt at this point it's hard to imagine driving anything else than stick. Stick is normal here, by the way, automatic is usually for older folks who can afford it.
I drive a Toyota Yaris Verso.
Yeah, it's ugly as fuck, but what do you want from me? I inherited it from my mom, and being a poor student I'm quite thankful to have a car at all.
Besides, this thing has grown on me - it's almost perfect for a pragmatist such as myself. You can remove the middle back seat and lower the lateral back seats into a floor compartment, which results in a HUGE space to store stuff in... it's my own personal transporter, and it's come in handy in more than one big move already.
I got my license in february after failing the test 4 times (due to nerves more than anything). I just got my first car two weeks ago and I couldn't be happier with it! I've managed to not crash it so far but I came pretty close the other day when I had to double check that I put my lights on and took my eyes off the road for a bit longer than I should have.
I drive a manual and plan to keep it that way, never really driven an automatic but kinda looks like how you would drive a bumper car :/
Learned at the tender age of 15 to drive a car. Got my license at 16 since I was in school. Recently I got my motorcycle license which puts me a little late to the game since I'm now 34. Eh...whatever. Now when I leave for work in the morning I have a hard choice to make. Do I take the Dodge Challenger or Suzuki C50? Today, it was the Suzuki.
Yes I can drive.
I started learning at 17 in the UK but then went to live abroad so didn't take my test till 19 (passed 3rd go).
And ni I will not give you a lift =P
