Poll: Capital City of Earth

A simple question - if all the nations of Earth united under one world government, which city would be the capital of the planet, and why?

I've outlined a few of the world's major cities in the poll already, but do feel free to choose "other" if you feel none of the options fit, and explain your choice.

Keep in mind that the city must be on Earth - we're assuming a united planet, but not that we've begun establishing colonies elsewhere in the solar system/galaxy.

I'll assume we get an entire country set up for the capital city. Like What Australia did for Canberra or Italy did for the Vatican. Make a country filled with pretty much the U.N. That's what they should do, its not what they will, its what they should though...

EDIT: Since being quoted about 10 times by people saying that Canberra isn't a country, I know that. I knew that when I posted. I used it for an example since it was a planned city, one in between the 2 competitions, to appease them both. It was just an example of something not being decided but compromise.

And for another place to add, why the hell not create an island for this place? We can make them now, why not for the capital?

New New York, but New York was the closest one and technically in the same spot. I think it'll take that long for us all to unite as a planet.

Probably Beijing, Brussels, or Paris. I mean for obvious reasons I can't see it happening (How many Chinese, American, Indian people would be happy to be ruled from Brussels or Paris? How many Americans, French, British, would be happy to be ruled from Beijing?) but I reckon if everyone was to have a sudden outbreak of curiously detatched rationality it'd probably be one of those three, for their global significance. London might be a contender but given how much of the world is still a little bitter about their previous experience of being ruled from London I think there's a limit to just how much detatched rationality there is to go around.

Officially: New York, as that's the bussiness center/crown jewel for the last superpower.

Unofficially: Moscow, as that's the nerve center for all organized crime. Everywhere. That new skyscraper they're building in your capital city? The russian mob probably owns that.

Shanghai. 21 million people: a centre for world economy. Great public transport... 2 hours from where I live.

There's also that giant slum, the beggars and terrifying drivers. Well, that was my impression of it. Scary stuff at times. But the tourist areas are pretty.

I'd say it'd be wherever the guy in charge is from, or wherever the UN Headquarters are, then we don't need to build a new one.

I would say somewhere in Switzerland like Zurich but really I'd say it should be somewhere with ease of access like Paris or Berlin.

EDIT: In retrospect, Brussels would be a very good choice.

not amercia or britain because they are the most likely to have it, make it somewhere like beijing because it is already crowded enough that nobody will go there.

I chose other. It would highly depend on where the Earth Country originated from, or by whom. Like if it was the United States as the fore-runner, then probably Washington D.C. If it was the Christian church, then probably Vatican City. Etc...

Pretty sure that the ACT isn't it's own country.

He's talking about Scale. Australia (Country) establishes a Capital city (and territory) for the federal parliament, So the WORLD would establish a very small country as it's capital country. (that's what he was getting at)

I'd put it somewhere in Europe. Please not in the U.S. Pretty please?
