ok here's why i say dogs

plus for dogs:

they can help you pick up members of the opposite sex
they will help you if you are in danger or at least try to
they are loyal
they can be trained easily
depending on the breed they will keep and eye on your children so they don't wander far and will herd them back
they can and will clean up any food or liquid you drop/spill on the floor so saves the need for a vacum
if they are large enough they can get beer from the fridge for you

now onto cats:

they are not loyal
they will not help you in danger, if they detect danger they get the heck out of dodge
they don't listen to you
they crawl everywhere
they are more difficult to train
they demand more attention
they are finicky eaters
they cause women to go crazy, the more cats a woman has the more crazy she gets unless she's a breeding them
they don't help you pick up members of the opposite sex

I like cats and dogs but I cast my vote for dogs just for the fact that all cats hate me. Also, my brother has the best description on the loyalty of cats and dogs. It goes, "If you die in the woods, a dog will stay by your side till it dies or is removed for some reason. If you die in the woods, a cat will just walk of with a "sucks to be you *****" attitude." I laughed at first but came to realize, he was completely right.

wrong.

they're tiny.
they don't listen to you--
only you.
they crawl everywhere--
?
they are more difficult to train--
Not in my experience.
they demand more attention--
Again, no. Dogs are always seeking attention, cats just accept it.
they are finicky eaters--
My dog will starve himself to death rather than eat dog food. My cat hunts.
they cause women to go crazy, the more cats a woman has the more crazy she gets unless she's a breeding them--
No
they don't help you pick up members of the opposite sex--
Well, you can't walk them, but if you can get the girl in your house...
Have I argued with you before?

Before I say my favorite pet I'd like to share my theory with you regarding why dogs are so popular.
if you think about it, dogs are extremely similar to human infants. they demand attention all day, knock things over, make loud noises constantly, need to be cleaned frequently and mess on everything.
So my theory is that people who like dogs who have the above mentioned attributes (which is 80% of them) are really just looking for a substitute for a baby.
The only difference between an infant and a dog is that the infant grows up and becomes relatively intelligent (in most situations.)
Lets see if you can guess which pet I prefer.
I think it's probably more because back when we were still living in nomadic tribes, dogs made for easily trained hunting allies & defensive systems. It wasn't until we began storing food that cats became useful to us in helping keep pests under control.

Anyway, I prefer cats. I'm surprised cats are winning, usually on gaming forums dogs are more popular.

Also, H.P Lovecraft loves cats [http://terror.snm-hgkz.ch/lovecraft/html/catsdogs.htm]

I always enjoy being agreed with, thanks for the support. I actually voted other, but I like cats and didn't like what he was saying.

I'm gonna have to go with Cats. Dogs are nice and all, but it really boils down to personality with me, and most of the time, I can mesh really well with a cat's over a dog's. Dogs just seem so needy to me, while the cat has a 'live and let live' attitude. My cat and I could go days without paying attention to each other and be happy, but when we needed that petting, the other was there for it.

Dogs? Pack animal. They need the contact, and I just don't.

However, I do love dogs. I'm hoping to get a dog some day. I'm pretty sure I want a husky, but we'll see.

She shed two months ago and isn't showing signs of doing it again so early. And unfortunately for me I can't find a reptile specialist in 30 miles. All the vets can do is put her down...
Don't give up hope...you said she's a red tail boa right? I'll see if I can find any info on what may be wrong with her and if there's simple solution. On Monday (cause trying to contact a vet on the weekend is almost impossible) I'll see if I can get a hold of the reptile vet here in Ottawa and see if he can give some advise.

I found this website for people who own boas and you may be able to find an answer to your problem. There's a LOT of info on many topics so you may get lucky if not you can submit a question and you may get the answer you need from one of the people on the sight. I don't know how your snake usually behaves so you should check it out. I hope you find the answers you need. to keep you snake healthy.

kitties! I used to have a cat that would flush out pheasant when we were hunting. Plus, dogs seem to like rubbing their slobbery faces all over whatever nice clothes I might be wearing.

So by your logic, Took, people who like cats are actually looking for a substitute pretentious pain-in-the-arse roomie, who doesn't pay any rent, hates your guts, yet expects you to feed them? :p

Hey, perhaps I only want a dog because I have a cat.
lol. :) Cats are less hassle...no argument there. It depends what you are looking for. I just happen to prefer a house that look the same when you get back at the end of the day and doesn't smell like dog.

I like dogs, cats are horrible, they will mostly just grow up just to piss everywhere and claw at you. A majority of dogs are quite friendly, but are quite big and difficult to keep around the house.

I always wanted a snake like that, maybe i should get one. And cats are awesome, a friend of mine has the most fluffy cat ever made, completely awesome.
I recommend you get a male ball python. They don't get as large as the females. Females can get up to 6 feet in length while males get to about 5,1/2. You can tell a male from a female by checking the base of their tail. If they have spurs, little thorn like growths it's a boy. (just in case you didn't know how to tell a boy snake from a girl snake) and get the snake while it's still a baby and handle it often so it gets used to being handled, if you are gentle with him/her, she/he will be gentle with you. I hope you find the perfect serpentine friend.
How much does maintenece for a sake like that cost?
The most expensive part about getting a snake is the tank and stand. You'll also need a top that is strong enough so that the snake doesn't escape and if you get a baby, he will need a hiding spot so he feels safe. I was lucky and was able to get a nice sized tank and stand from my friend for $100.00 Canadian.

I'll be using Canadian prices since that's where I live, I won't include tax 'cause that would involve math.

Lights can last around three or more months as long as you don't use them to heat up the snakes food if you feed them frozen mice. They cost about 10-12 dollars.

Bedding- I use Exo Terra Plantation Soil for tropical terrarium. One brick of this will last 3-4 months and cost $2.00 each or you can get a 3 pack witch will last you a year for $8.00

Food- My baby eats frozen rats and mice. (My friend hates me because his snake will only eat live and is a very picky eater.) I like to get 5 at a time and depending on the size that can cost 15-20 dollars witch is a good price since they only eat once every couple of weeks.

Now, the snake itself, my baby cost me $119.00. Snake prices may vary depending on age, type, health and store. Some unsavory sales persons like to push sick animals on you so do some research on health issues for snakes so you can be sure you get a healthy snake.

Happy hunting.

If this poll were IRL - a newspaper survey, say - I guarantee you dogs would win comfortably. But this is the Internet, so the cats have it!

Bah, cats are too stuck up for me. They prance around like they're so cool, and expect you to play with them .

Cats ... don't generally care if you're even around. Unless they're hungry of course. Why would I take care of something that doesn't give a crap if I'm around?
When people say things like this, they've almost invariably never lived with a cat. I don't know why, but certain people seem predisposed to dislike cats, in some cases hate them. It's like their brain classifies cats as vermin. All it usually takes to win them over is to spend a lazy afternoon in a house with a friendly cat.

Here's another mystery: why is it so common for people to think you can like cats or dogs, but not both?
