Sometimes offline, and when I say cheating... I mean something like using a walkthrough if I get tired of looking for something. Getting too old to sit around for hours trying to solve certain puzzles in games.

I generally just look for hints, but I never use cheats that make my character super strong or invincible... that just makes the game boring.

I used to cheat all the time in offline games. Then I got older, and more skilled, and figured out it was more fun without the cheats.
Its the exact same with me too.

Lol, I'm kinda the reverse of that - I didn't use to cheat but then I got older and slower/less skilled and figured out it was more fun with the cheats :)

I can't stand people who cheat online. really I would actually physically harm these people.

I cheat if it makes the game more fun or if I'm really really stuck. Offline, of course.

Only once I have beaten the game just for the heck of it.

Every time you cheat seriously your junk gets a tiny bit smaller.

Oh man, I cheated my way through all of Age of Empires (the first one). They had some of the most interesting cheats out there, including babies on tricycles with big guns, lasers, rocket-launching cars, and robots. It wasn't quite as satisfying for the other Age of Empire games, so I just played it the normal way.

I only use cheats when I can't do something or any one I know can't do something.
The other time is when it makes the game more fun.

Having mostly played online games for the last few years I have got very used to the idea of everybody playing fair and square. I have no interest in cheating at all and would never even consider cheating in an MMO.

However, as a result of the recent March Mayhem I went and bought Mass Effect and within an hour I was googling if there was a god mode :(

This made me think back to offline/single player games I have played in the past and if I used to cheat:

FPS/RPG: (Doom/Quake/Duke Nukem) Yep
Driving games: No
Strategy: (Age of Empires series/Civilisation) No - maybe very occasionally if I had already lost

Like I say, I would never consider cheating in an online game. Offline games that I am OK at (Strategy/Driving) I would never or very rarely cheat but RPG or FPS games I usually cheat as I am no good at them and without cheating I would give up after the 1st hour or 2 without ever having left the training facility! Online games I am no good at (Counterstrike springs to mind here) I simply don't play.

Anybody else feel this way?
Offline not so much. I complete the game then if I really enjoyed it and wanted to do some off beat stuff like the stat modifiers in Baldurs Gates.

Online if I come across an exploit. I keep it quite. I use and abuse it until it is so worn out that the devs hot fix it. Most of the time they can't figure out what I did or how I did it. That is why you keep it hush hush. Boggle the devs, impress your friends. Thats the only way to cheat.

the fact my gaming a ID is usually Cheaty McSpeedy is purely coincidental... I don't cheat unless I KNOW I won't get caught. Or the benefits outweigh the risks.

I used to cheat because I was terrible at games. Now I pretty much only use the sillier ones that give you a laser gun or something, and never the first time I play.

Cheating in Half life is epic. Turn on god mode, spawn crap and have all the weapons. Same with Left 4 Dead. Offline only though.

Cheating offline is fine, if you've at least beat the game yourself already (o any difficulty). Cheating to make any actual progression is stupid, and only hurts the experience of the game (if it's a crappy game to begin with, who cares).

Cheating online is never okay, as unlike offline play, where you're only ruining the game for yourself, doing it online ruins it for others.

The only way I've been cheating lately is by using the Game Genie on my Genesis to skip levels I've already beat or give me increased continues (in really hard games). But those old platformers are pretty damn hard.

I used to use debug mode in Sonic, but I usually don't cheat, even offline, as it usually makes the game less fun.

Online cheating is just stupid. Having an unfair advantage and not playing solely with your own skill makes playing games pointless and boring. Cheaters are morons.
