Cloning should be used for endangered animals... not the idiots making them so.

Edit: Also, like most have been saying, for cloning organs and I like the idea of pet replacement. Just that there would be even more un-adopted pets than before...

Cloning is only going to be good for organ replacement. Did your heart get damaged? Clone a new one. Did your liver fail? Clone a new one. Organ donation will become irrelevant.

hat and pet replacement. Remember the movie "The 6th Day"? Yah, Re-Pet is going to happen. Your doggy or kitty got run over? Get is cloned. Good as new.

As for cloning whole people I just can't see any good practical use for it.

Why not? I mean, besides the religious opposition of "Playing God" do we really have a reason not to clone people?
What can we do with clones? Besides feeding some people's egos. They'll end up killing you anyway because they think they're the original. If they don't have super full consciousness, does that make them second-class?
Why would they think they're the original? Unless you're cloning embryos, then every clone will age normally and the Original will be older, either by a little (few years) or by a lot (up to their deathbed, I suppose). Would a clone be an exact replica who pops out at the samge age as you? Not as current science stands, as far as I understand it. You'd just be growing a wee copy of you from birth.

As for "what we could do with clones"...I dunno really. Give children to the infertile? Give children to those who simply don't want to have a 'normal' birth? Give children to a couple who doesn't want one partner's genes due to a hereditary disease/defect?

I'm pretty sure we'd find a use for it.

Why not? Technically, aren't we playing human since we make humans already via the sexytime?

Cloning whole people is a bad idea, not the actual process and end result, but the way society would react to such a feat would be messy. We already have enough social issues in the world right now and don't need another one. I do think cloning organs or body part is a good idea though, it would save alot of lives and cut down on the donor-recipient list.
A fair point. We may not be ready for Clones as people with human rights yet, but then - until it happens - will we ever be?

I don't have a problem with cloning itself, but I believe there are far too many people on this planet, so cloning people would be quite stupid.

No.

I have nothing against the principles of it, but we are already stupidly overpopulated. The last thing we need is more people.

I don't even care if the clones turn out to be super intelligent or whatever, still no.

fine just as long as a fly gets ito the machine while you are using it or else you will get a human fly hybrid

I dunno how fast cloning can be, but sexytime isn't so fast, I'm sure it takes longer to conceive than to press teh clone button.

I'd say do it, but I like being original with my clone army.
People already think I stole it from Star Wars, so if everyone else makes a clone army, I'm going to be irritated.
Plus, the noise made from millions of cloned assholes would be atrocious.
You better make sure that your clones know that they're clones. They'll kill you for being an inferior copy sooner or later. And make sure they don't get any funny ideas because they don't like being clones. I'm starting to sound like a dictator, aren't I?
Stunted development is a wonderful thing.
They're smart enough to focus as a unit, but not much else.
Cannon fodder distraction force for the win!

Eventually, the gene pool with wither away and then we all die from disease.
...
OR the clones get wise and kill off the originals...or...they're just plain violent.
OR all the clones are brain-dead retarded.
...OR they act as zombies...

what would be the point? can we transfer our conciousness into the clone? otherwise we would be just making new individuals that look like someone else but will likely be completely different.

Indeed, it takes about a minute to blow your load inside a girl and then 9 months for the kid to plop out. Miracle of childbirth and all that.

How long does cloning a human take again? Anyone?

Actually, I don't want a clone army of myself. I just want one clone to act as a body double when I don't feel like being a reclusive hermit. We'll share consciousnesses and memories as I choose. He can sit in my closet playing Gameboy when I don't need him.

I'm not certain about this. I'm one of those people who think we shouldn't be playing God. If we could clone individual organs for transplant though, I'd be all for it.

How could you not expect me to want an army? I do wanna take over the world ya'know.

Also, whenever I walk anywhere with my clones, I want this song to play in the background.

Oh, I know...but I like being somewhat original!
And I love the March.
It is wonderful.
I should play it next weekend. During the company picnic.

As long as they are treated as human, with full sets of rights, and not turned into slaves, I don't see the problem. It would be a big problem if they were treated as less than human, which I could see happening due to stupidity, but they wouldn't be. A clone would be just as real as any person, if you disagree then I would wonder what you think about twins.

The argument that we shouldn't 'play god' is incredibly simple minded. I don't want to turn this into a theological debate, but why should those that believe in deities have any sway over people who don't. That point being in response to someone likely bring up some idea of 'souls' or something of the like.

No cloning people. Cloning organs for transplantation, sure, but not people.
