Now I'll give my opinion and stance on this whole thing first.

I am on the side of boycott but I might get the game anyway.

I am on the side of the boycott because I feel this takes away a key part of what makes the game good.
As if there are no dedicated servers there will be no game types like 64 Hardcore Hq only servers that only play say Shipment or anything else strange.

IW could at anytime just say No and stop running servers and the game will die this happened to Chromehounds on Xbox 360 when they stopped running servers. With dedicated servers this doesn't happen as the game can continue for much longer than it would with this kind of servers.

It kills the modding community which will be very very bad for a CoD game as the modding community is a massive part of it.

Everything it says about moderating skill leve and reducing hackers is bull.
Hackers always find a way. Also Vac is worse than PB .Someone who is highly skilled could just start the game again.

This will create much much more lagging and fighting for server which I dare say most support will be given to the US which this would not happen with Dedicated servers.

Also with Dedicated servers clan can have their own server now I know they said they addressed this but I really can't see how it will work.

This is not "PC Elitism" rather fighting for what we have always had. If you think it is so you are wrong and you should really be fighting for better option such as this for consoles.

On L4D2 boycott and this one they are completely different and for different reason do not reference this boycott as something similar to that one as it shows how little you know about both boycotts. If you think they are similar go check them out for yourself first and you will find they are not.

Sorry for text wall now what does the Escapist think?(also remember NO FLAMING FOR THE LOVE OF THE INTERNET)

I'm a console gamer, so this scenario has gone pretty much over my head, I'm just looking forward to what should be a excellent game, regardless of it's multiplayer mode.

I am a console gamer and I don't really care for CoD games anyway so it doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I am more excited by the Spec Ops mode than the Multiplayer to be honest, although I spent a fair chunk of my free time on CoD4's MP. But I hope to see Mod support and Dedicated Servers for this game in the long run. Hell, even if I have to stick with CoD4 for MP, it's not like I will get addicted to MW 2 as soon as I start playing, right?

MW2 is going to kick ass, there is no question about that. So why everyone is so up in arms about this issue I don't understand. Not having servers isn't going to affect how the game plays, it'll be just as fun. It's not like they're taking away content from the game. And if it doesn't work? Patch it, no biggie.

I think that the boycott is reasonable. It makes more sense than the Left 4 Dead 2 boycott. I'm also not going to buy the game. The boycott and the fact that I'm not buying it have nothing to do with each other.

You know that having dedicated servers is something that Call of Duty has been doing since the first game, right? It's not just that, either. I don't know enough about the game to really defend the boycott, but these changes are not very good.

I'm not going to be a boycotter... But it was a reeeeaaaal huge dick move by IW. There should be an option for "Everyone should stop making these attention grabbing threads, there's at least 15 of them already"

The whole point of having dedicated servers is to provide a constant and friendly place for you and your friends to play in, and have other people consistently play with their friends without forcing them to go into a matchmaking system that spawns annoying individuals. And yes, it -does- take content away by preventing people from modding their own servers and providing player-made content as well as normal content on them - and in some cases, the player content is as good or even better than the game's content. Look at Team Fortress 2, for example - they embrace this philosophy and it has provided them with new maps to implement into the general game, new game modes, and even some ridiculous games that completely subvert the shooter aspect (such as one where one team disguises as terrain objects and another has to find them in a certain map, completely genius). They also can't simply "patch" the lack of dedicated servers - it takes a long time to set them up.

tl;dr version: It does take away content by preventing modding, and doesn't let a server-wide community develop beyond the neutered private lobby system, which sucks in MW for the 360 and will suck here

I chose "Other" simply because I wanted to combine two votes: I will get it for a console so it doesn't affect me, but at the same time I don't support the boycott but still sympathize for PC gamers and wish they would reinstate dedicated servers. I mean there's no reason why they couldn't have just included Matchmaking on the PC as an alternative to playing off dedicated servers. Forcing matchmaking on the PC community is just wrong.

I didn't care either way until PC elitists started telling me I was having a second-rate experience by having fun with complete strangers. That was when I decided I was against the boycott in all it's forms.

I've already spoke about this game far too much today in another thread.

My opinion on boycotting it is that boycotts are fucking stupid, makes you sound like whiny kids and also it has already been done with L4D2, so no points for originality.
Can't we just look at how that made the boycotters look and just not bother?

Instead, wait till it is fucking out. Then decide on how bad it is, see how much or even maybe how little these changes make before deciding to buy it or not?

I'm not happy about mod support being gone, paying for DLC is fair enough.
On the fence about purchasing the game until I've seen it.

Boycotting a product you have never played is retarded.

a boycott wont change a thing. Didn't even realize there was one. You just have to be proactive in getting what you want. Even if that means sending 1 email a day, a 1 snail mail letter a week to be heard.

I'm getting it on console, so this doesn't affect me. I really don't see this boycott going anywhere though. The game will sell like a trillion copies regardless.

I think the boycott is kind of dumb actually. Why complain about a game that you're going to end up buying anyway?
