I LOVE THOSE CRAZY BASTARDS <3

I voted yes even though I'm not sure. I find it really hard to rank things, but they're definitely up there with Park Chan Wook, Pedro Almodovar and Quentin Tarantino

The big Lebowski is the funniest movie made since it came out. Meaning that their are funnier movies but they are all older than the lebowski. No one has made a funnier movie since.

All the Dude ever wanted was his rug back.

Park Chan Wook is the best directer currently alive and may very well become the best directer ever.

No Country For Old Men was one wild ride.

I think they're great, but 'the best'? Not sure about that.

Love 'em but I have to give it to Christopher Nolan and the dynamic duo that he forms with his brother.

Sure he has a lot more movies to make before they can have the same numbers as some of the other candidates out there. But overall, there's just something to solid about nearly everything that man does.
Sure, Insomnia is the weak point there but other than that most of it is just gold.

And I am looking forward to future projects
Inception is looking pretty amazing huh? And definitely agree with you on Insomnia, but even that was pretty good.

The directors I personally enjoy the most are Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, and Martin Scorsese. Can't believe no one else has mentioned Scorsese in this thread yet. Raging Bull, King of Comedy, Goodfellas, and Taxi Driver are all classics!

I do like the Coen Brothers though, Burn After Reading is hilarious.

definitely, i have watched every movie they have made with my uncle, it's a standing appointment that each time they release a new movie we are going to see it, it may be the fond memories but anyway, best directors ever!

They are great directors but it'd be very hard to pin them as "the best" methinks. I have a few choices, but speaking of dead or alive, I love me some good Hitchcock. David Lynch and Christopher Nolan are great too. Tarantino was brilliantly witty too (although I think he's lost a lot of his way). Never personally thought Darabont or Cameron were fantastic. I like them, but they'd be far from my top 10. Just my two cents.

I love the humour in their films, it isn't something that is seen in most other films. Saw "A Serious Man" for my birthday, was hilarious and filled with good performances. After reading this I want to go back and watch my DVDs again

No.

Alfonso Cuarón, Spielberg, Eastwood, Blomkamp, Cameron.
What else did Blomkamp make bedsides District 9?

Avatar was Ok, Titanic SUCKED

Spielberg is alright

I agree with Eastwood, and I don't know Cuaron sorry.

OT: I said Yes because "one of the best" was not a choice.

He hasn't directed anything else aside from a few short films that aren't features. Still, he's a great director.

Avatar was magnificent except for the third act.

Meh.

Alfonse directed Children of Men. Great movie. Fantastic, even.

Aren't they the Matrix guys? If so, no. They are not my favourite directors. I think... Yes, Ridley Scott or Tim Burton.
Hell no. Those are the Wachowski brothers you're thinking of. The Coen Brothers are better than them in every single way possible.
But are they better than... Kubrick?

Akira Kurosawa was one of the best directors ever.
Did he do Yojimbo?

Because that kicked arse.
Yes. That is one of his many great films.
Cool, I wrote about how Sergio Leone based A Fistful Of Dollars on it for my Media Studies coursework about spaghetti westerns.

Pffffft, NO. Although, to be fair, both have their share of fantastic movies, I just enjoy Kubrick's more.
