I think they're quite good directors and they've made some great movies, but they're not my favorites. Those would be Quentin Tarantino, Stanley Kubrick, and Tim Burton.

First of all, If there is a South Park episode about Avatar I have never seen it, and the opinions of others don't affect my analytical view of movies,or whatever.
This is good, then. Keep that up and you'll get further in life than the lemmings.

Also, when did i ever say that it was a bad movie? I loved it. It was awesome. But it did not change movies, it did not have a compelling story, and the acting was nothing special.
I never said you claimed it to be bad. I just addressed your criticism in regards to originality.

Special effects can make one awesome movie, and Cameron's directional job certainly makes me reconsider his skill (I used to dislike him because of Titanic).
I'm puzzled why you think Titanic made him a bad director when he'd been involved with incredible movies before that (Terminator 2, Alien). That may have been mostly a chick flick, but it was still very well-crafted.

I agree the atmosphere of the "flora and fauna" was quite astounding, but not the first time it has been done. And because you seemed to have ignored my "it is the best version of the story" comment I will say it again: it is an old story told in a masterful way.
Everything has been done already. Every joke, every fantasy novel, every new pop song is, to varying degrees, a slightly-changed variation of that which came before it. Find me one band that sounds great and doesn't have influences or styles they try to incorporate. Again, complete innovation is a very rare thing. Avatar isn't groundbreaking, but it retold the story coherently and managed itself well. We agree in that last part; I just don't see why this would impact peoples' judgement so. Then again, they're all opinions.

At this point we are pretty much agreeing on everything, but just in different terms. So, yea, it was good talking with you haha.

Concerning Cameron's directing style, i have only seen 3 Cameron movies: Avatar, Titanic, and Terminator 2. Titanic didn't impress me in anyway, so neither did Cameron. I guess i overlooked the godliness of Terminator 2 though. But as i have said, I think now that he is a good director.

Watch Aliens (I said Alien before; my mistake, that was Ridley Scott). It's probably one of my favourite sci-fi movies even after all these years.

I will hopefully watch both of them soon.

People really hold Tim Burton in such high esteem? Besides Edward Scissorhands I can't recall a single movie of his that was outstanding in any way.

OT: I like the coen brothers a lot but like people have said there are just other directors that I think are much more talented
