I attend a school specialized in design and architecture, and everyone friggin' hates comic sans. And I mean hate with a passion. Aparently Helvetica's the way to go, people.
Then again, I never personally understood what the racket was all about. It's just a font. I hardly even notice it.

I'm amused by the whole internet crusade against it but couldn't care less myself. Obviously it would be stupid to use it on anything other than silly internet things but that's just because it looks so unprofessional.
Meh I indifferent toward it. I mean apperances wise, the font doesn't look good and pretty much all professional designer people told me to avoid using that at all cost.
I don't get all the hate. It's just a font. Like, some people actually get annoyed if they see something in Comic Sans. I think that's just pathetic. Get upset over something that's worth it.
It shouldn't be used for any sort of, say, literature you want someone to take seriously, I don't think, but I'd say the same thing about Papyrus, Chiller, and that ilk. But it has its uses. I mean, come on, a flyer for a new daycare center - no one wants to read that in Times New Roman. But in Comic Sans? Sure.
Then again, I pretty much use only downloaded fonts for things like that when I'm making them. (Like all the jellyka fonts. Oh yeah.)

I use comic sans because I hate the arch that is over the circular part of the a you see in most types of font.
It doesn't make me froth at the mouth and start a riot, but I still hate it.
I also use comic sans because that is more or less how I write IRL.

I use Tahoma or Times New Roman - not such a fan of comic sans as it does look like I'm trying to make my history homework friendly, exciting or funny.
Obviously I don't mind if someone else uses it, there's not really a problem. It's just not to my taste.

People who get pissy over fonts are hilarious to me. I'm a design student so I see it a lot. It seems like it's a requirement for people to have a strong opinion on why Comic Sans is bad. It's a font just like any other and it has its place. If you can use Comic Sans effectively it's no worse than any other font.
Another favourite argument I see is the "Helvetica vs. Ariel" debate. I make a point that whenever a tutor insists that an exercise should be done in Helvetica I do it in Ariel. To date no-one has noticed.

Every typeface has it's place. The problem with Comic Sans is that people use it too often and in situations that it doesn't belong.
I understand most of you are not designers, but typefaces (not actually called fonts in the context of this conversation) are really important. Just look at the covers of your favorite games, movies, or books. Someone had to spend a lot of time not only creating the image but also choosing a typeface and manipulating it to be attractive and unique, while still keeping it easy to read.
If someone instead just slapped comic sans on a game cover it would look like shit.
