I would say PS+ people and DCUO people should get money back.

Sony don't owe us anything 'cos PSN is free but they will give us something as a way of getting some good PR back.
Sony doesn't really owe you anything over the loss of the free service, but they CERTAINLY owe you for losing your private data.

I bet a new section in PSNs EULA denies users compensation for rick of or monetary losses due to incompetent security and press releases.

I would love to see them completely fuck EULAs in one fell swoop by putting that in.
The EULA is a contract, and like any other contract it is subject to certain limitations. If terms are unconscionable, if it's a violation of a law, yadda yadda, then you can't put it in your contract.

Maybe we should all get a free month of Qore or PS+ or something. That would be cool. I hardly see PS mailing out checks though.

Does anyone else think that sony should provide some sort of compensation for it's users for the risk of private data being taken? seems only fair to me but what does the good men and women of the escapist think?

It would be a nice incentive, but I don't want to sound like an entitled prick asking for more from Sony right after this considerable mishap and damage to the PSN.

Agreed, already cost me some money to get my ducks in a row after this fiasco that I will likely never see from SONY. Hopefully its enough to prevent anything from happening to me.

EDIT: Apparently they are think about compensation for loss of PSN services.
Q: Will there be a goodwill gesture for the time we haven?t been able to utilize PSN/Qriocity?
A: We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.

What makes you "entitled" by asking someone who's wronged you for compensation?

Same, it's a pain in the ass not having my credit card right now since I had to cancel it.

I would say they owe us more than an explanation at this point.
And if this breach is the only reason someone might sign up for credit monitoring, I think they should be compensated.

I already had one so I only had to change a few passwords but if this prompted me to sign up to one, I would be joining that class action lawsuit.
Why? It's not like Sony set there security as the number 4 as a password and that was it. If hackers want to hack something they will, blaming Sony for people hacking it is stupid to me.

Would be like blaming your car company if somebody broke into it and stole your radio.

It card be hard to change your personal data and inform your bank of the problem.

It wasn't like Sony just had a sale of PSN users information, hackers are the ones who took the data.

At the most it's a minor inconvenience.

That's the thing. Sony didn't really wrong me on account of the only info that I lost was my password. Secondly they "indirectly" wronged me, because of their faulty protection. So I can see what you mean. If a body guard fails to protect you then there might be some compensation.

Either way I just don't want to sound greedy. I nice free PSN game might be nice, but as of now I'm just saving up for the New Mortal Kombat

If I told you that I would watch your dog and take care of while you were away, and then while your dog was in my care, I didn't watch it carefully enough and it ran out into the street and was hit by a car, wouldn't I then owe you for letting your dog get hit by a car?

That's what happened here; Sony let 77 million dogs get hit by a car.

They very fact that they lost our data is in and of itself a wrongful thing for them to do. And yes, it's really a pain in the ass when your major credit card that you use for your bills and other services is suddenly unusable.

Yea your right about that, I had get an new account for my card that. I didn't even take into account the fact that our personal information was stolen also. Allow me to retract my statement. I was only addressing the fact that we can't play online
True. If it was just a case of not being able to play online I wouldn't even expect a "sorry". With so much personal data compromised, though, I'd expect some sort of apology. Not bothered about getting anything free as long as Sony acknowledge and apologise for their poor security and complete lack of hindsight.
