Does anyone else think that sony should provide some sort of compensation for it's users for the risk of private data being taken? seems only fair to me but what does the good men and women of the escapist think?

Monetary? I don't know about that, and it doesn't matter because it won't happen. Some kind of sweet free gift over the PSN store or something would be nice for everybody though - and I *can* see them doing that.

I would say PS+ people and DCUO people should get money back.

Sony don't owe us anything 'cos PSN is free but they will give us something as a way of getting some good PR back.

You've been compensated by the awesomeness of the hardware for years! What more do you want? Geeze!

The only compensation I would expect is much better security from now on.
Easy to say but I don't think their security was the problem, remember Mastercard got hacked in the past. Good hackers will get through anything, hopefully they end up in jail for it though.

And no, I don't deserve any compensation. If they want to offer me something as a good faith token that's wonderful but I'm not going to demand it.

Q: Will there be a goodwill gesture for the time we haven?t been able to utilize PSN/Qriocity?
A: We are currently evaluating ways to show appreciation for your extraordinary patience as we work to get these services back online.
Looks like they are considering it after I saw their second QA article [http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/04/28/qa-2-for-playstation-network-and-qriocity-services/]

In my opinion, I don't care but it would be nice for a good I'm sorry.

I think only plus users should get compensated.

Does anyone know if Xbox Live went down? And if it did, were subscribers compensated. All things being equal if that is the case and Microsoft did not reimburse thier users then I see no real reason why Sony would.
It did and they were. 10$ or a 10$ game and some other stuff to do with the subscription charge (or so I've read).

Yes, never mind all those poor sods just using the "free" version yet still plugging in their very personal details and card details to download games and content off PSN. They don't deserve anything at all.

Heck, getting a free PS1 game would make me happy, or they can just do as we've been asking and add PS2 to the store.

I would say they owe us more than an explanation at this point.
And if this breach is the only reason someone might sign up for credit monitoring, I think they should be compensated.

I already had one so I only had to change a few passwords but if this prompted me to sign up to one, I would be joining that class action lawsuit.

Just a free theme or something would do, I only have 3 dollars on my account, what are hackers going to do with that?

Maybe just a bit of free content on the store. Something normally rather expensive, too!

Like a WE'RE SORRY free download of inFamous or something.

It'd simultaneously hype inFamous 2, too.

Well, i'm pretty sure the EULA covers Sony for any loss of data, regardless of how buttfuck huge it may be. Any compensation would be a bonus but don't expect anything.

Well, I don't think they owe anything to the nonsubscribers, but I do believe they should give something free as good PR.

I'm honestly surprised I haven't heard rumblings about class action lawsuits or something, that sort of thing usually turns up with these events.
