Simple question.

Which of these two websites do you find the most compelling to browse, and why?

http://www.cracked.com/
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage

Aside from the general jokes of "You'll never come back from there." that I hear every time someone talks about these sites, I've been wondering about this since the Extra Credits episode on Game Compulsion/Addiction.

As Daniel stated in that video, "'Addiction' refers to the fundamental altering of brain chemistry, something which games have never been shown to do. No, no. What gaming is is compelling." Granted, he was talking about games, but websites can work the same way. So, if compulsion is the true motivator for why people say these sites will suck hours of your life away, then the second part of the question is, ?Why is it compelling to you??

For me, the first answer is ?Both.?

For the second part, TVTropes focuses on ways of writing fiction, which I find very fun to read about and understand. Plus, seeing how these tropes pop up in other shows I enjoy helps me draw conclusions about why I may like that show.

As for Cracked, I enjoy that site because after each of the articles, there always seems to be at least two more interesting ones I can jump to, and two more from those two. And thus the cycle continues.

So, which side do you fall on? Cracked or TVTropes? Answer seriously, and in the meantime, I?m going to see what laws all of you have broken before you even read this OP.

I think Ive read most cracked articles Im interested in and the same for tv tropes. Tv tropes does get more of an opening new tabs adventure and use to make my connection crash but ive run out of things to look up
so any ideas?
My suggestion is keep an eye on new and upcoming shows and films. Seeing those fill up with tropes is often amusing in it's own right. Especially for me as a Kamen Rider fan with Fourze out.

I prefer Cracked.com, for the same reason you said. It's fun to jump from article to article. Usually they're rather entertaining too, which is always a bonus.

Cracked is far inferior. Besides it having an irritating format requiring you to load two pages to read most articles, it's also simply not as interesting. You can find information about almost anything in TVTropes, and it tends to cite sources, which allows for further reading on topics which interest you, as well as allowing for YMMV.

Subjective, that. Apart from the two-page thing, which to facilitate their making of money on cracked and objectively takes longer.

I like Cracked, but nothing so far has made me go on an archive binge to the extent that TV Tropes has.

eeeeeehhhhhhhh....no.
I keep looking up villains and interesting ones like my favorite
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DisproportionateRetribution
And my response to that is this...

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WorldOfHam - Judging from the fact that this is from the man who wrote Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, this should not be surprising at all!

I get bored of TV Tropes. Sometimes it's amusing, but it fails to hold my attention. Cracked... yeah I've got their application of the Android Market... keeps me entertained on my lunch break.

I find Cracked to be usually more interesting, but I always go on TvTropes after finishing a game or move or book, etc.

I've spent some time on TVTropes, but Cracked is like crack. So many awesome articles. You can always find another one to jump to, too. Sometimes, I wonder how true some of the articles are.

Is this stuff true? Or do they make it up to be random and funny?

It's very likely a mix of both. Humor does play a part in some of the snarky writting, but I'm fairly certain some of this could be over-exaggeration. Then again, laws of older and modern times can be vauge, so it may just be amazing coincidences at play also.

Tropers are pretty sick, not in the good way I mean most are depraved as shit. Cracked at least has some standards, even if they turn out meh material half the time.
