When you play online multiplayer in games, its always against people with the same console, but what about those jerks with other consoles who say that their games are better? Wouldnt you want to hold a victory against them instead of your console sharing buddies? So would I. But thats just me saying that. Would you want cross platform multiplayer for your favorite games?

Yes. And for the record, they have thought of it before. It just has never been that popular with devs, the console manufacturers, etc.

Eh. I don't know. I think that it's really about the controllers and I think that some controllers might be better suited for a certain game than others - giving some players a disadvantage.

But, hey, it's an alright idea - just not something console developers would want to do.

Ever played Shadowrun?
Exactly what I was thinking. Well done, psyker.

OP: Sure, it could be fun to get to play against people who aren't on XBL. I might bump into some nicer people, or friends who don't have an xbox.
But I wouldn't want the people on PSN have to suffer meeting and listening to the people on XBL >.>

It was tried with Shadowrun and worked relatively well.

The Agency was supposed to have it but was scrapped. Its possible, its just most don't want to put in the time, money, and effort.

This would be awesome.

But then again playing on a xbox/ps3 we could possibly risk a massive failure to them computer-junkies-i-have-a-mouse-and-keyboard-and-you-don't people. And losing to kids on wii would just be embarrassing...

it would be a good idea, you could even cross genres if you did this, have console FPSs linked with comp RTSs or something?

I thought TF2 and Alien vs Predator was already cross-platform. Could be wrong...also, why aren't the Call of Duty's cross platform when they're on everything that has a screen? It would be cool but I don't do online-multiplayer...I'd rather see split-screen return.

true, but if there was a leader board based on what platform your on, and see which platform has the best players, you could settle the console wars a little more quickly. And PC gamers, the reason your "better" is because you have a mouse. if you turn down its speed to match our controlers, and then you beat us, youll have the proof you need. but untill that happens, just keep those comments about us "consoletards" to yourself.

sounds like a great idea. It might work for ps3/360 because they have similair controllers and amount of buttons, but I don't know about the wii and pc. plus there would be more people playing if it were something popular, like a first person shooter.

would the graphics have to look different though the eyes of people on different consoles?

I want it, but it won't happen.

Why? Because the more people ***** and bicker about how great their preferred console is, the more money companies like Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo get. They want fan loyalty and to give the illusion of being superior in most aspects so that people will buy their products and use them exclusively when, in reality...

THEY'RE ALL THE SAME GODDAMN THING!

*Ahem* So you see, we'll never have cross-platform gaming for mainstream games until we all stop blowing the companies which give us our consoles.

I want a cross platform multiplayer for a game that includes PC, namely an FPS game. Would show those bloody consoletards once and for all that FPS games suck with a controller.
Weren't several GFWL EXACTLY that?

I had a conversation about this with some friends of mine, something about how "mouses are faster and more accurate" which would make PC players better. This coming from PC gamers though, I don't know for myself. I like my joystick just fine.

I'm *almost* tempted to say that Shadowrun wasn't cross-platform in the sense that the OP was looking for. The game ran on 360's and Windows PCs. Both platforms in which Microsoft has almost total control.

Instead I would suggest looking at FFXI. PS2(and some PS3s as well), PC (Windows and 'nix with Wine), and 360 support from a third party software developer. That's more what I think people imagine when you say "cross-platform"

My vote for the next big cross-platform game? Minecraft. Everything from the iPhone/pad on up will run some form of java these days. Imagine running the server.jar on your android phone with it's wi-fi hotspot ability. Talk about portable gaming....

In the words of the internet, "LOLWUT"

Total control in what sense? Microsoft's own competitors release products for Windows, so it must be a rather loose sense.

In any event, it's still multiple platform.

No, PC players will have the easy advantage, then Xbox or PS3 depending on the game type. I'm sorry, but that's just how it is for now.
