I thought that that this subject should be brought up, with the recent preview of Final Fantasy 13 at E3’08 and the advent of next generation graphics, coupled with the expansion of the Final Fantasy 7 story arch. The question arises; why not remake the original game with current generation graphics and full voice acting.

The developers have most of the work done for them; the story had been well established and praised over the years for defining the concept of advanced narrative and character development within the genre. The graphics would most likely be the engine that they are using for FF13; the CG renders have already been made for the cut scans and can be copied form Advent Children. Square Enix could also draw form the pool of voice actors from Advent Children for both the English and Japanese version.

The only thing that would really need work would be slightly reworking the dialog and combat system. The game is already more popular than god among RPG fans and hold one of the most monolithic fan bases in gaming history.

In a brilliant show of marketing skill the new Finial Fantasy (XIII) has been announced for the Xbox 360 as well as the PS3. This was a god send for those of us who couldn’t afford the PS3 or already had everything they wanted in the 360. So it would only be a logical conclusion that a FF7 remake would grace both of the consoles with its presence, insuring massive profit and acclaim.

In closing; Square Enix got my ire up when they made the tech demo for FF7 on the PS3 which made my heart practically burst from my chest in excitement, and them several days later they announced that there were no plans to do a remake. It pissed me off and I DEMAND RECOMPENSE!!!

I want them to remake FF9 just to spit in the face of every guy who says FF7 needs a remake. It'd give me no greater pleasure than saying the fanboy rage at such a thing.

Course then I'd have to deal with them saying "OMG YOU REMADE FF9 WHY NOT REMAKE FF7 TOO!?!??!?!" so it might be the best of plans after all. On the plus side I'd get to play FF9 again.

p.s. No.

Why isn't there a 'hell no it was bad enough the first time' option?

Then again they might improve it.....no hang on that never happens.

Remakes are bad and should not be encouraged.

If done right, this would be awesome.

Although since I'm still trying to find Leene Square in ChronoTrigger on my iPod Touch, I would like the Chrono series to be remade.

But only, only to be made right.

They can't afford any fuck-ups with such an awesome series of games.

Call me crazy, but I would prefer an original game over a remake. No need to keep flogging FF7's carcass just to earn a few bucks and appease the fanboys.

God, I've been hearing people gripe about this ever since the first leak of footage from Advent Children. It was possibly the best RPG for it's time and had a decent story, but it already exists. Just leave it in the past in everyone's memories where it belongs.

Sure, after Square partnered up with Disney of all people to make a game franchise, I don't really have much respect for them as a company anymore, so they could very well be shameless enough to appease all the fans by making a remake. Personally, I don't plan on wasting paying the money to both buy the remake and the console I would need to play it.

Just let the original be the only one there is. After all, you may just end up being disappointed.

I think a FFVIII remake would be more worthwhile. FFVII has been done to death.
That'd work but I found FFVIII dull as the hell, easy for the most part and the story involved time travel which meant it was open to absolutely massive plot holes.

Plus the bullshit about everyone knowing each other from when they were a kid and not one of them remembered. That just sealed the "This story is stupid" deal.

Also Aeris is a dirty skank. Hur hur hur. Take that one, fans of the game I never played.
*points to all the FF7 porn that infests the internet*

I concur.

I would love to see a remake. Why?

1. It doesn't hurt me in any way whatsoever, it's not like I'm going to be forced to buy it.
2. Fanboys would shut up.

Isn't that logic enough?

Oh wait, no. Because the same fanboys who wanted the remake would find a million things to ***** about because it wasn't as cool as they imagined. (see: Diablo 3)

Oh snap, the fanboys are coming from you now. Your a braver man than I am.

Anywho, back on topic. Isn't it enough that the original game has both prequel and sequel games, movies, and god knows what else kind of media? I mean come on, the backstory and history of damn near every character, no matter how minor, has been explored at this point. It's almost like the entire FFVII franchise (and it's wrong that a franchise name comes with a series number in the first place) is in the hands of George Lucas. Where, exactly, will we draw the line? When will enough be enough?

Eh. I played FF7 when it was new and loved it then, but that was years ago. If it came out today and I had a Ps3 it'd have to be cheap as hell for me to get it. While it could be fun, I've got a hard time coughing up roughly $60-$70 on a game I've already played.

Beating a dead horse will not make it get up again. Repainting a dead horse won't make it get up again either.
If you glue its feet to the floor and put a bunch of metal poles inside it like a scaffolding you can kinda make it stand in place.

Stuffing the dead horse also works, but that's not nearly as gruesome as my first thought...

Edit: Ninja'd by snowplow! You win this round you crafty crafty man.

There's more porn of Tifa than Aeris though...

Not that i know anything about it!

......what?
But it's well known that Tifa's a dirty skank. You don't even need the porn to realise that. Her character design basically screams it. "Respectable woman"? In that skirt? I think not.

You know, we were actually talking about this in class yesterday, and a few good points were made.

1. current gen graphics would a good re-make make, if that's all that was changed. if they try to tweak features or improve on the story and such like then they may wreck it.

2. they could re-release it as it was, with the older graphics, partially because that's what we have the nostalgia for, but mostly because it would be easier money. however this would bring about the problem of justifying the re-release. which would probably prompt the dev team to fiddle with things, and upgrade whatever, changing the game significantly enough to market to a new audience, but not enough to piss off the fan boys.

3. no matter how you change anything about ti you WILL piss off fan boys.

4. make it a DS port, FF III and IV were good fun on the hand held, and the slight interface differences and better cut scenes were enjoyable. putting it on the DS would sell like a good Nintendo franchise does.

5. don't bother, no matter what you do to it, it won't be the same as the version we grew up with. if you wanna play that bad, you PS2 will play it and if you don't have one a PS1 sells for buttons. play it the way it was meant to be played, on the older consoles.
