a PS1 sells for buttons
To be fair, most PS2s do as well these days.

4. make it a DS port, FF III and IV were good fun on the hand held, and the slight interface differences and better cut scenes were enjoyable. putting it on the DS would sell like a good Nintendo franchise does
It'd probably be a PSP port rather than a DS port. FF7 runs fine on the PSP hardware though. Don't need to port it if you're fine with messing about with your PSP and DLing a PS1 version and running it on that like a few of my friends did. Works fine.

I would like a remake that stays true to the original. The only thing I would desire is the graphics update, because let's face it; FF7 was pretty ugly, even by the 16 bit era. It was squares' first attempt at a 3D game. As we can see from FF8, FF7 was at the bottom of that ladder. A good translation would greatly be appreciated as well.

Another reason I would want a remake is because the game is becoming rare and technology is increasing, leaving older games behind. I have 2 copies of FF7 and the first disk had a hard time reading on my PS3 (60GB built in backwards compatibility for those who think it's emulation) it would freeze and crash at random points. I ended up having to swipe the first disk from the other copy to play the game. So instead of 2 copies, I have 1 functioning copy.

As FF7 being one of my favorite all time games, I want the ability to enjoy it well into the future instead of having to worry if the technology will outgrow the game.

problem is that most've the guys in my course are DS fan boys to boot. so the thought of a PSP re-make never came up. crisis core was mentioned tho.

There's too much cannon to the FFVII universe as it is. seems like the more you pile on the worse it gets too. should let sleeping dogs lie in my opinion

I want them to remake FF9 just to spit in the face of every guy who says FF7 needs a remake. It'd give me no greater pleasure than saying the fanboy rage at such a thing.

Course then I'd have to deal with them saying "OMG YOU REMADE FF9 WHY NOT REMAKE FF7 TOO!?!??!?!" so it might be the best of plans after all. On the plus side I'd get to play FF9 again.

p.s. No.
REMAKE BOTH!!!

Actually, those are the only two Final Fantasy games I'll play anymore. i tried ten and got bored after the opening boss. I tried eight and got lost and gave up right around when you get Carbuncle. Seven and Nine are the only two I brought with me to college and will be beaten again soon.

That'd work but I found FFVIII dull as the hell, easy for the most part and the story involved time travel which meant it was open to absolutely massive plot holes.

Plus the bullshit about everyone knowing each other from when they were a kid and not one of them remembered. That just sealed the "This story is stupid" deal.
Well, if you revisited it, papered over the cracks and shook up the combat style then I think it could be an excellent games.
Still, I'd prefer a original title.

It wasn't that good of a game to begin with. Looking back on it (and having tried to re-play it recently) the only reason I even completed it was I didn't have anything better to do. You may as well just play 10 or 12, if you have to play a FF game with better graphics.

Besides, a truly classic game doesn't need remakes. I don't think I want a remake of Fallout 2 or Deus-Ex even though they were two of the best games ever made. remaking it just doesn't add anything and costs you money.

Buy a PSP.
Install a PS1 emulator (not hard from what I gather)
Download FF7 for the PS1 onto your PSP.
Play to your hearts content forevermore.

You can't "paper over" the fact that all the characters knew each other as kids and none of them remembered without drastically rewriting the characters, dialogue and story. If you're going to do that, why not just make a new game? ;/

Call me crazy, but I would prefer an original game over a remake. No need to keep flogging FF7's carcass just to earn a few bucks and appease the fanboys.
Don't original games tend to suck more? I'm not a fan of FF btw.

Off Course!

And, in fact, that's why.

Someone needs to proofread the fucker, the translation of FFVII is shocking, and it's the only one left with such a horribly bad translation.

I'm sure they can get it on a UMD, with some decent compression for the movies.

As I said, I'd rather have an original title. I was just saying would rather have a remake of VIII than VII, mostly because I like the characters better honestly.

It's out for the PC. If you don't feel like downloading it illegally for the PSP, you could download it illegally for the PC.

That said, that'd be pirating and pirating is wrong and under no circumstances do I encourage it.

Or....do I?

No. let ff7 Rest in peace. Its been beaten to death one too many times.
It was overrated to buggery and wasn't really deserving of most of its praise anyway.

Why can't people just be happy with the original games?
If you love it that much, then play it again, and if you're fortunate enough to have a string of friends who love it too, then convince them to voice-act.
Me and my mates did it once, it was actually kinda fun.

As far "milking" of the old Franchises goes, i'd say to Square.
"Just make movies of the others ones."

I'd love to see an FFVIII movie.
even more then that i'd love to see an FFIX one, seeing as that one is actually my favourit.
That way they can distract the crowd from the obvious fact that re-making a game that everyone already loves will likely ruining it for the original audiences and completely screw over any future opinions.

If you were a Game developer and you made a sparkling gem and then everyone was like "REMAKE IT OR WE'LL KILL OURSELVES!" (exageration)
But you had that doubt in your head that doing it would completely ruin your reputation, it'd ruin everyones thoughts and feelings about the game, it'd change the way people look at the game for years to come.

Would you do it?
