Another vote for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. One of the very few games I liked so much that I bought it twice (once the Enhanced Edition, then the Collector's edition)!

Human Revolution by far. Mass Effect 3 will leave you so crushed by the ending that you'll never want to play through it again, or any other Mass Effect game for that matter. I can't get enough of Human Revolution and am currently on my 5th or so playthrough, with no chance of stopping.

I would say you can't really go wrong. Personalty though I found ME3 to be more fun. When I play a shooting game I want the guns to be fun to use I just thought the guns where more fun to use. Stealthing works well though.

Save for the boss fights, of course.

Goddamn boss fights; the only way I got past them was through gameplay-illegal means.
#1 Buy typhoon
#2 Spam Typhoon

That's what I did. I saw it on the forums before I bought the game so I was ready for the bosses.
Screw Typhoon, I used a stun-gun/assault rifle combo. Nothing makes me happier than stunlocking a boss ^-^

I completely agree. My gripe is that the game was too stealth focused, I just don't think it rewarded Tank gameplay anywhere as much as it did stealth which saddened me a bit. One of my favourite tactics in the original was to get regen level 4 and get the Dragons Tooth and go on a rampage in one of the levels.
Yeah I didn't like giving out more experience for stealth kills, ideally having more experience than someone else should be based entirely on side-quests and exploration.

Also best hacking mini-game I've had the opportunity to play, but I don't have much exposure to them...

Dues ex. Forever. I love the game, it was my 2011 game of the year. Screw skyrim, screw assassins creed, screw portal 2. Adam Jensen may have never asked for it, but he sure got it. The game is just that damn good. I've replayed it as many times as the original, which amounts to at least ten times.

It's fun, the story is well crafted and engaging, and you can play as you wish. Yes stealth give you more exp, but wouldn't you agree that it takes more skill to dispatch your foes in secret than going Rambo?

All of the hacking mini-games in Ratchet and Clank series where a lot more fun if you ask me. And often deceptively simple.

Even that retarded one with the ball you roll around a grid? I agree though, R&C does hacking best.

OT:Get DE:HR, it was my favourite game last year. The boss fights sucked dick, but they were just bits of gristle in an otherwise perfectly cooked steak.

Without a doubt Human Revolution. It tied with Dark Souls for my 2011 GOTY. Awfully designed bosses/ending aside, it was a great game and definitely challenged my beliefs on augmentation.

You should also consider getting the original game. There's tons of little throwbacks in Human Revolution that makes the original make more sense in context. Not to mention it's $10 or so on GoG.

I have no idea why people were surprised Mass Effect 3's ending blew, the entire game from start to finish was trash. I haven't played Deus Ex, but ME3 is not worth getting.

Mass Effect 3 was pretty widely enjoyed up until the last minute. If you search the internet for "It was good until the last 10 minutes" then you're going to see that comment crop up a LOT.

Personally I loved both. If you've invested into the ME series you'll get a lot of of ME3. as a stand along game, Deus Ex is better. Both have poor endings as far as weaknesses go XD.

EDIT: And please don't let people say, "The ending makes it pointless". ME3 isn't pointless. Infact I think it's the best ME game to date. The graphics, the gameplay. All I loved most in this. It's only the ending that sucks, the journey and the thrilling story until that moment was fantastic.

With my exams finally about to end I've got some free time coming up and I fancy a new game. I've been interested in these 2 for a while now but can't make up my mind. So help me out guys.

(This would be for the xbox by the way)

(also I have played the 1st 2 Mass effects)
Well, go into it with this understanding.

The ending of ME3 sucked

The boss fights of Deus Ex sucked (and the ending a little).

Really, it depends on what kind of gameplay you like.

Deus Ex can be played as a Shooter, a Stealth game, or a Shooter/Stealth game. There is a lot of emphasis on exploring and the maps are non-linear, allowing you multiple approaches to your objectives. You can diversify your character's powers to suit your playstle. The game lets you talk to people and explore some very large hub areas between missions.

Mass Effect 3 is a cover based shooter. You have 6 different classes you can play as with different powers. Some classes depend more on shooting, some depending more on casting. When you aren't on a mission, you are given a hub work and a ship to explore and talk to people, and there is an emphasis on trying to develop relationships with characters.

I heartily recommend both, but if you can only get one right now it depends I guess on how desperate you are to take the plunge back into the Mass Effect universe, having played the first 2.

If you're not that desperate, then get Human Revolution simply because it's older and therefore cheaper at the moment.

When in doubt, get the cheaper game, and then get the other one when the price drops. By the time that happens, Bioware might have fixed the god damn ending.

Even if you played ME1 and ME2 I'd still recommend DE:HR. It's different. ME3 is pretty much more of ME2 with some gameplay improvements and an incredibly crappy ending that throws away the entire Mass Effect story. DE:HR will let you do things you can't do in many games. It gives you options. It doesn't try to be a cinematic Hollywood experience like Mass Effect 3.

Your asking about Mass Effect 3 on a forum that absolutely hates it for no more reason than the last 5 minutes?

Good luck.

OT: Hard to say, if you've played the first two mass effects then definitely Mass Effect 3.

However if you haven't I'd go with Deus Ex, which was a VERY good game.

Deus Ex: HR is a very good game and also has one of my favourite game soundtracks of all time. The only thing wrong with it are the boss fights, which can just be neutralised by making sure to use the typhoon.

ME3 on the other hand is an ok game, but it has a lot of problems even without the ending. It does also have a pretty good soundtrack though. You might want to play it if you played the first two, but its not worth the £30 its currently priced at on Origin (and not really worth installing Origin either). If you like shooting things then you should buy it, but it doesn't really have much else to offer apart from a couple of good, but disjointed moments in the story.

Overall I would reccomend DE:HR, as it is a much better game and i imagine its cheaper atm as well. If you have to buy ME3 wait until the price drops a lot more.

Everything here exactly. If you can go into ME3 with an open mind, and you enjoyed 1 and 2, you're in for completing probably one of the best series in gaming history.

But DX is also really good.
