Get Deus Ex. It's not linear, allows for multiple playthroughs since you see a different side of the map depending on what style you play as, bosses are another case, although it's just a small portion of the game, rest is completely awesome. Ending's not that bad, since it's thematically consistent, and each group presents their arguement throughout the game so it doesn't feel like a total ass pull. Finally, it gets plus points because robotic shades.

Ending's not the only thing bad in Mass Effect 3. It screwed up sidequest journal tracking so bad it's ridiculous. Animation skeleton is fucked up, like femshep when idle thinks she's buff or something, and running/jogging is just weird. Kai Leng is a literal ass pull from nowhere and extremely annoying. Shepard's retarded at cutscenes, even moreso than the last games.

Plus, when you play Mass Effect 3 the only thing that'll pop in your mind is, I never asked for this.

If you have to get ME3, wait a few more months for the price to drop or even better after the "ending" DLC has released and those who are keeping their copies for some closure begin to trade in their copies.

Go get Deus Ex while you wait for that to happen, The ME universe isn't going anywhere.

OP if you played the previous 2 mass effect games the answer should be obvious. Finish the story

Get the games in this order

Mass effect 3> Witcher 2> skyrim OR Deus EX

Deus Ex: Human Revolution is superior in almost every single way, no question. Get Deus Ex.
Except the boss fights suck.
Still better than Mass Effect 3's "boss" fights.
I cant fathom how one can reason that the reapers on rannoch/tuchanka were worse than those crappy deus ex generic boss number 1, 2 ,3 fights. Even Leng was preceded with a nice TIM dialogue both times.

People tend to forget that there are more than 4 boss fights in Deus Ex. Remember those conversation battles where you had to convince someone to do something for you? They are essentially boss battles and they are awesome!

Get ME3 to finish off the story. I have it and I'm currently going through ME1 and 2 to build up, so I can't say what it's like.

Also get DE:HR. I played it several times through and its just awesome.

Personally I loved both. If you've invested into the ME series you'll get a lot of of ME3. as a stand along game, Deus Ex is better. Both have poor endings as far as weaknesses go XD.
This ^. They're both excellent games, and while i personally prefer Deus Ex as a game, Mass Effect 3 is almost unmatched in modern gaming as an experience. Apart from the ending of course.

Actually the same goes for the ending. Only in the most negative way possible.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was absolutely fucking fantastic, pardon my French: the combat, the stealth, the dialogue, the music, the RPG elements such as how your choices mattered... However, the ending wasn't stellar, so to say, and felt watered down, but it was true to how the original Deus Ex ended (it was VERY similar, you have to admit that).
ME3 was... controversial because of the ending, which in turn kind of "ruined" the entire franchise according to several people.
I'd advise going for DX:HR. Haven't gotten tired of it.

If you've played ME1 and 2, as you say you have, ME3 is a worthy continuation of the series, and you'll probably enjoy it more than HR. It's full of epic moments, the combat is much better, and up to the last 5 minutes, the plot is, in my honest opinion, BioWare's best since KotOR. HR is a great game, but it's just a dumbed-down, if much more polished, version of DX1. I'll vote for ME3, but I'd say... buy DX1. It stands way above both HR and ME3, and is my favourite game of all time.

Depends. But since people are mostly focusing on the "bad" parts of these games, I'll simplify it for you.

Which is more of a deal breaker?

God awful boss fights that undermine your entire playstyle for the whole of the game...

... or a ten minute ending that undermines everything you've done?

Speaking as someone who actually doesn't hate Mass Effect 3, I still say DXHR. It's an infinitely more interesting game on a thematic level, albeit not quite as strong in terms of its characters. Malik is fun, but that's about it.
Worth noting, however, that it's also got the same weird-ass racial issues that the original Deus Ex had.

My preference is Mass Effect 3, but it has a lot more going for it for me (third-person view, a story I'm already deeply entrenched in, party members, Vanguard charge...). Deus Ex: Human Revolution is an excellent game as well. You get a good deal of choice in how you handle things such as combat, conversations, and how you move through the world.

Don't consider the boss fights a big deal. My first playthrough of the game was non-lethal (earned the pacifist achievement), stealth-based, and on the hardest difficulty. Yet the bosses were laughably easy. The stun gun breaks them.

Get both ME3 and DE:HR if you can. No need to create some ridiculous artificial rivalry.

Go Deus Ex all the way because for one it doesn't rely on you having dlc (cough cough ending dlc) and it is different than most games out right now and new things are cool :).
