The monk is actually the other class I don't consider completely lame. The witch-doctor? Tower of ghouls. I rest my case.
And how, exactly, is this not really awesome?
Yeah uh, that I'll leave up to you to figure out.

What it implies is that you can sidestep any form of working for your gear when you can get stuff for US dollars. Had they not included that into the auction house, the only way for you to get items would've been by playing the game, whether it's finding them by chance or buying them for gold.
Adding a shortcut for real money doesn't make it pay2win, it'd be pay2win if the
only option would be to pay for it with real dough. But it ain't, you can still get loot the old fashioned way.
Not to mention that Diablo 2 already had an infamous black market for gear. Making it legal now, creating proper, regulated channels for something that can't be fought anyway it defends players against scamming and such. That's why I like this solution; they realized they couldn't fight it, so they did the next best thing.
'Kay, couple of things.
First, I didn't know the term pay2win implied you can
only win if you paid, especially when it comes to a PvE-centric game like Diablo. Furthermore, even if it did, which, again, I doubt, I never actually used the term. Why you'd be saying this to me is beyond me.
Second, what this does, because we don't live in a perfect world, is it encourages farmers, as opposed to discouraging them. Here, I'll even explain the implications of that for you. The game's economy, is going to be massively devalued by this. What does that mean? People who can't wait to spend extra money on full price games are getting a double advantage, one of them being the possibility of influencing your character with money, and the second one being the asians devaluing gold and items, meaning more items for less bucks; meanwhile, the people who don't buy shit with their cash are at a
disadvantage, because the gold they're using is being devalued.
This is worse than doing a poor job of fighting it. It's actively encouraging the rape of the game's economy. Say what you will about Diablo 2, people got banned on both ends of the deal and that went a long way to discourage
at least some of the potential buyers. The next best thing would be to simply ignore the black market, because at least the potential to be scammed for being a fuckwit and the inconvenience (compared to what we're gonna have offered here) of it would do something.
And third, I don't know where you picked up that it's Blizzard's responsibility to defend players engaging in activities that go against their ToS.
The funniest thing about this is that only a year ago (summer of 2010) they were as adamant as ever about this whole deal. "We will never support activities that go against the game", etc., including actually pointing to gold farming and the like. One year later, bam. Cash auction house. Fuck ideals when money's involved.
tl;dr the only reason that's being done is so Blizzard could get in on the action. You're deluding yourself if you think for a moment there's any moral reason for it whatsoever.
