Once I learned how to use the Superintendant's real-time tactical display I found I really enjoyed sweeping the streets.
I meant that looking at the city map and seeing, in real time, where the Covenant patrols are and therefor picking whether to fight or run makes the search a lot less nerve-wracking.
The map itself doesn't mark out recording locations; those you still have to find in first person. You can use the map to look at the city layout, though, and figure out where you haven't been... and then if you're close to a recording, the Superintendant will find a way to catch your attention. (Keep watching the signs, and look (and listen!) for hyperactive machinery in the viscinity; also, VISR will highlight a recording site in your line of sight with a strong yellow outline.)
