I thought it was great.
Maintained Star Trek traditions.
Awesome action scenes.
Loved the fan service.
I only had one problem.
The camera was a little too shaky and the lighting sort of got in the way of the action but that's just a small, ittybitty, tiny problem.
Other than that, good.

But it wasnt a joke...

the referencing to it was the joke. the fact that people think it's the same Star Trek as TOS weren't getting it and frankly it's probly one of the greatest nods to TOS that there was in the whole movie

They weren't wearing dress uniforms. They were wearing space suits, I promise. If that's the only reason why you are boycotting it, you should do yourself a favor and see it before it leaves theaters.
Oh that's not the only reason I promise, I could go on for pages about the problems I have with Star Trek in general. However, I do plan to see it when my university shows it sometime in Fall (for $2 a ticket and no "no outside refreshments" restriction!).

I think it was an amazing refreshing of a failing franchise. Star Trek was effectively dead. This has re-launched it. I look forward to more.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I grew up in a household that was smitten with Star Trek, and so I consider myself more than a little familiar with the series. I thought the reboot captured the spirit of the original series with ideas and concepts from some of the later shows. It was fresh while remaining true to the spirit of the original. I couldn't have asked for anything better. I should also probably note that I'm a huge JJ Abrams fan as well. The first 3 seasons of Alias were some of my favorite television ever.

I was worried going to it that I wouldn't like it. I'm a die hard Star Trek fan and I was worried since all my friends who had never watched it in their lives loved it I thought it would be a good movie but maybe not a good Star Trek movie (if that makes sense). But I loved every minute of it. It was updated and clever and while it was different to the old movies it still had that Star Trek charm.

I haven't found one person yet who disliked it and I'm curious as to why someone might. Where better to look than the internet.
I boycotted it on principle.

No Shatner. No Trek.

That's the Abrams way of filming things, though. I expected it, so it didn't bother me as much.

If it would have had Shatner, I think a majority of people would have boycotted it on principle. Shatner is not the fucking franchise.

i thought it was enjoyable, and provided a new place to start for the franchise.

i had one problem though, when kirk first decides to join the federation the shuttle makes a sound effect stolen from the jetsons. its not the thievery that bothers me its that the sound effect could have been an impressive "VROOSSHMMM" instead they went with "Do-lo-lo-lo-lo".

The plot and characters were alright, but I found the way of filming annoying. Why can't they put in steady shots and lighting anymore? Everything is all shaking and flashing. Bloody annoying if you ask me.

Yea I enjoyed it. I've never been able to get away with any of the TV shows but even though this film was very action driven in comparison to the show, I thought it was very entertaining. Engaging characters, good acting for the most part, good if not a bit thin story, and a lot of good action sequences. Not a lot I could complain about.

It was as good as summer blockbusters get. My only real criticism was the script.

I watched MovieBob's review and it just confirmed for me that he's the worst kind of critic. "Hey, let's do an experiment! I'll trash the movie before I see it, then I'll see it, then I'll trash it again and say that I didn't even need to see it to know how shitty it was!" Some people just don't know the value of entertainment.

Even my dad, who has seen all the star trek movies, said that that was the best star trek movie to date. And I agree with him completely

I found the acting superb and the effects well-made, although all things considered, the biggest flaw with this movie is the title. It's sort of like the American 1998 Godzilla movie.

Despite the name, it's just not Star Trek.

I liked it a lot. My experience of Star Trek is admittedly very limited, but I thought the new movie was everything a summer movie should be. It managed to be a good, fun action movie without resorting to being a brain-dead explosion-fest like so many others. I know there were a lot of explosions, but the acting was good and the story, while nothing particularly revolutionary, was solid and worked well.

It's nothing particularly special; it's not going to go down in history; and it's certainly not going to win awards. None of this matters. It's a very good, very fun action movie, and doesn't need to be anything more. I look forward to the sequel.

I didn't like it because I found it boring and a bit too stupid. I would pretend to like it if you asked me in person though, out of politeness.

I really enjoyed it.
However, I'm completely new to Star Trek, so I don't know whether that means I missed out on what they did/didn't put in or not. I don't know what each character was like and how they've been changed for the film, so I could enjoy it for what it was; a good sci-fi/action film, not complaining that so-and-so's character never said that in the series...
