Yes, I did. And partially because it was almost integral to the plot, but also because it made the storyline that little big longer, and god knows it needs every minute it can get.

I did it, but thought it was a bit shit to be honest. I didn't really feel anything during except minor boredom.

... now if there had been annoying children...

What's so wrong with that? Human beings are hunters which equals killers. Our society has turned us (or tried) into a shell of what we are. I despise killing other humans but violence is our nature. You don't see wolves running around screaming "The horror!"
Are you suggesting that the way we progress as a species is to revert to primal instincts? How is that going to make the world a better place? Your analogy to wolves is incorrect, as they are neither sentient nor capable of rational thought. We are capable of transcending primal urges.

Haven't got it yet :p But I'm looking forward to playing that bit (the evil little arse I am) so I guess I'll shoot some civilians in Gmod while I wait.

I did not say that! Are you trying to set me up?

Sorry man, I just had to.
Yeah, I expected someone to bring that up. It's just as much of a fallacy to claim that "It's OK because it's only for adults". Well, true but then we're entering into circular argument territory.

No- sorry someone else did. That's odd, I can't figure out how it posted your name. Apologies.

:::EDIT:: It was Mr. Caine. Sorry, I have no idea why your name showed up.

The part I quoted is key. Maybe you don't have an issue with this, but you are kidding yourself if you think there aren't going to be young kids playing this. It goes beyond the blood or gore and killing of people. This is a simulation which encourages you to gun down innocent civilians. There is no reason for content like this, and there is no heroism or altruism in a players motives as there may be in other games. It's callous, irresponsible, and a poor way to entertain yourself.
Frankly, the fact that there will be children playing is down to their parents firstly ignoring the age rating and secondly not playing the game first to check if it's suitable.

Also, it is important, since it's the scene that essentially
sets the entire plot in motion.

Wow. Infinity Ward just totally guaranteed that I won't be buying this game. Seriously, we don't need stuff like this in our world. I don't care how they justify it in the story, this is just unnecessary.

Damn. Didn't really want to play the game until now. Also it's not that disturbing, I mean I've made Niko Bellic do much much worse.
The word for what you just described is desensitization. I'm amazed that this isn't that disturbing to you. Sure, gunning down hundreds of civilians in a highly realistic game. What could be disturbing about that?

As soon as I stepped out of that elevator i emptied the whole mag into the crowd. then i made it my mission to pick off any survivors. It isn't going to make me do something similar in real life because I'm not completely stupid and easily led but it was very satisfying. Especially shooting people who were dragging other people away or cowering in fear.

I made a point of shooting into the crowds with the LMG and knifing all the wounded people trying to desperately crawl away or clutching their wounds (I can feel the world shunning me as I type. And also Keith Vaz shrieking with horror...)

I haven't got the game and won't buy it as I don't particularly like COD but on Youtube that looked like a hell of a powerful scene.

As you can probably tell I fall in the 'able to discern reality from art' camp. I like films like Irreversible and scenes in games like this as they're incredibly emotive and powerful.

Besides, I thought we'd got over the whole games make kids killers thing? Despite the incredible graphics of modern games you're still no closer to mistaking them for real life when playing them than you were when I was playing Duke Nukem 3D in 1998.

So what if I'm desensitized to a bunch of pixels that are falling to the pixels underneath them because another pixel sent some fast moving pixels through them. If this were a video of real people in a real airport being shot by real terrorists I wouldn't say what I said, I do have the ability to distinguish life from art, and I hope most people do.

The game is rated M for a reason anyway.
I wouldn't really call it 'art'.

It's pretty insensitive to shove a section like this into the same for the sake of controversy when it can and most likely will strike a nerve with those whose friends and family have been the victim of terrorist attacks.

Then why do we bother making games with adult content at all? Or anything entertaining with an age limit?
Movies, games, cigarettes, alcohol. Kids see/do these things. They see the news, it can be pretty scary (not to mention graphic) sometimes.

As far as I was concerned it was part of the game, and a key point in the plot. I played it for this, but was slightly disturbed by the killing until you realize that it is just a game and you are probably just killing the same five or so people. Other games have done much worse things or on the same level but we don't care.
