No.

If it had been the Kompanion Kitten, maybe, but not for an inanimate object.

Yes. Well, its a box with a heart on it, and a virtual one too, but it made me question what is it that makes me care for a virtual character? Any character? Or, what makes me care for a teddy bear or anything at all? It's the context within which this object appears, the teddy bear is a gift from my ex, and the cube is the closest thing i had to an actual companion in this facility devoid of anything. So in a way, i did care.

I have said it before, but compared to companion sphere, cube is the best friend you could have in Portal!

I'm kind of unsure if companion cube would really have the same effect if it is brought back in the sequel though... :/
OH! That damned advanced challenge! I remember it now! Took me a full hour to get it right. Fricking sphere rolling and bouncing everywhere...

I heard a lot about it, seen comics dedicated to it, etc., all before I played Portal. I was expecting something, anything.

Companion Cube is an ugly piece of poop that you have to lug around for one level. It has no lines, no character and only serves to make your life harder. It was on screen for all of ten minutes and I fail to see how anyone can form an emotional connection with a brick in ten minutes. Heck, it's worse than a Pet Rock...
Hey, pet rocks saved the world from global thermonuclear destruction in 1986!

*Cookie for reference*

OT: I did actually feel sorry for it, but not much.
I was sorry to see it go, but it wasn't like there were tears, 21 guns and ritualistic suicide.

It was a fun part of the game, not a soulmate.

I wouldn't have but the line "the companion cube does not speak nor will it threaten to stab you" made me kinda love that little cube and the first time I was told to kill it, I jumped into the incinerator instead. (you should get an achievement for doing that)

100% serious I felt a tiny bit of sadness. No clue why, I can't even cry at a funeral.

I did feel quite bad about incinerating my only friend, but I've always been an overly empathetic person. So I can understand that you weren't exactly supposed to...but if a game can make me feel for a 'character' on freaking accident - that's a dang good game.

Yes! I cry and can't sleep to this very day!

But honestly though I didn't find burning it very emotional :). I enjoyed the entire level with companion cube though, all with GLaDOS speeaches & stuff. It was very funny.

And I really like the overall "aura" of Portal it was very well done for such a little story.
Duh! Especially since the "Cake" has became a symbol xP

PS. Oh and I also have the companion cube pillow like this one:
Isn't it awesome? :D

No. It was the equivalent to one of those pushable blocks in a Zelda game. I know I wouldn't feel bad about destroying one of those so.....

Companion Cube said she loved me. That she'd always be there for me.

Oh, right, I pushed you into a furnace.

Don't blame Erik Wolpaw (the game's head writer) for the memetic mutation! Wolpaw violated his own First Law of Game Design (the "time to crate law") intentionally...and that should've been the first clue that an extremely genre-savvy fellow was at the helm of that game's design.
What, prey tell, is the 'Time to crate law?' I'm curious and google failed me.

Nope. I don't quite understand what it's significance is supposed to be. It's a standard cube with a heart painted on it... Maybe I'm just too shallow to understand :p

Haha, I was about to go into some post about 'hey man, that's not cool, Simu Lord is actually pretty cool, insulting him wasn't nice...' but then I saw it was yourself.

Cheers for the link
