I wasn't sure what the game was about, I knew people would be relying on me and with my ISP changing thats not a good spot to be in.

You are NOT going to be Perma-banned if you happen to not do well at the game... as long as the Escapist wins. If we lose, you are TOAST. Just kidding. I hope.

I...have Vista. What happens if i win? Do I get banned If I can't install it?
I am pretty sure you can quickly send them an email or something so they take you off the list and pick another before the 'War' starts.

Ok on reading the rules and finding out I'll get banned if I don't keep playing I just can't sign up for something like that.

Five hours a week sounded perfectly reasonable to me. Worst case scenario is that you tell them something came up and have them replace you. No biggie.

For anyone who hasn't played PS before - five hours is nothing. Because it's a constant-world game you get sucked into it like you would with an MMORPG, rather than play being interrupted every 20 minutes or so by changing map/switching servers etc as you would in an FPS.

For Planetside vets - it'll be nice to be supplied with dozens of meatshields again methinks. Reminds me of something... PS Reserves anyone? ;)

I really hope I get picked for this, I could bring a lot to the table. Plus I love Planetside; I actually did a double take when I saw the big old PS logo slapped up the side of The Escapist. Planetside was dying, this sort of publicity is bloody amazing.

Well, my Vista laptop OFFICIALLY does not run PSW, so I will have to hope that my 3+ year old budget PC will do the job...

Played many other MMOs, I found this the most fun. I don't know what it is about an entire squad in a Galaxy flying over enemy territory and then dropping onto a tower and then proceding to take it and defend it, but I just found it so much more fun than any other MMO. Others were full of grinding while in this you could be useful what ever level you were.

I hope it's still as good as it was but I guess it won't be as epic. Attacks on some of the big towns were rather epic with everybody playing a part. Hope I get selected, signed up for it to be honest but think I'll keep reading/posting here seems decent guys, long time since I played it but the memories I have are rather awesome.

You just can't compare any other MMO to when you have a massive battle between two sides in Planetside. You have the few BFRs on each side attracting all the fire while the lighter vehiciles charged and bombers/fighters flew overhead. God, I miss it.

PS If you like the game, then you'll realise how small 5 hours a week is. I remember battles lasting hours at a time with sides going back and forth.

What exactly is Planetside? I'M CONFUSED.
It's an MMOFPS. You create a character and level up, Battle Ranks, which give you certificates to spend in certain areas. For example, heavy weaponry or different types of vehiciles. You can reset these but there's a timer on it so you can't constantly change what you want to do although you can just create a different character for different things since the first ranks are quick and easy to do.

PS Reserves was awesome, it gave life to the game and was a really good idea. It also gave me a free way to pay since I was playing WoW at the time and didn't want to pay for two MMOs at once. Getting into decent clans within hours being a reserve was fun :)

5 hours is reasonable. However, I'd be doing almost all of those 5 hours (if not all) in large splodges on weekends, as that's when I have the time. I'd be upset if I got banned for "unwillingness to play" just because saturday hadn't come yet. So if I get selected, please don't kick me until I've had a weekend.

An old budget PC has a better chance, I ran PS one my (Then bran new) computer in 2004 and it played it ok, this was before all the optimisations they made to the engine as they went. Yet my clan mates with top end pcs had all sorts of troubles. Its a simple game, and evidently doesnt like state-of-the-art hardware as it gets all confused.

For those who do remember playing it. Who wants to go ride the Cyssor-go-Round! :D

PS 2003 was ridiculous. I remember days of the servers crashing (they were hardy servers too), continents being vied for in some of the most brutal combat I've ever seen, and strategic coordination I've only dreamed of.

The Teamspeak servers with over 100 people in them, coordinating across whole divisions, dropping individual platoons onto bases to cap the generator and drain the base of NTU in order to neutralize it (especially if it was a Dropship Center).

God, when is Planetside 2 coming?

I saw that I would be fighting for the Escapist, alongside fellow escapees, in order to defend the very honor of my home on the Internet and immediately put my account into the reserve. Then I checked to see what the hell Planetside was, and was even happier that I would be playing a game that looked totally freakin' awesome.

So yeah, I'm in. And if I don't get selected, I'll at least try to get into a free trial or something and see what it's like.
