I'm good at Planetside... but I'm still too shellshocked from my past Planetside experiences to dare apply.

Hundreds of people... fighting... failing to get anything done... because latency combined with instant strafing causes them to skip around in easily exploitable manner... and 6 hour sieges are undone in 15 minutes from one player hacking bases when nobody else is on the continent.

The horror, the horror. *shudder* War is hell.

Nope, I only ever get on this site while I'm at work and I don't have the time after work.

Yup. Because I do like the idea of the game.

Although it's really hard to play it now - very little people to kill...

Well don't worry, nobody is allowed to cheat, and if you get in, and play, you get a cool badge!
Nah, considering my "shellshock," I'm still not sure I can muster enough interest to manage 5 hours a week.

what the hell is planetside wars?
Planetside's last, best chance of getting enough publicity to not become a free-to-play or closed game.

Also this [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/contests/register/planetside_war]. Look at the front page or banner ad once in awhile, eh?

No, I'm awful at games like this.
That is the great thing about Planetside. There are no other "games like this". It is much more interesting and varied than the twitch style FPS; and it does away (mostly) with the level grind of your typical mmo. Higher level characters can do a greater variety of things, but a low level can contribute and have just as much fun. PS is full of non-fps players. They drive or fly both combat and support vehicles, heal and repair friendly soldiers or vehicles, setup minefields, deploy and upgrade turrets and shields, sneak around as an infiltrator to disrupt enemy activities, or pick a mode of combat that suits them best. Sniping, anti-vehicle, anti-air, grenade launcher in addition to your standard assault rifle or machine gun.

Because of all the variety, the game can also take some time to warm up to. Your best bet is to get with some helpful people to show you the ropes. Once you get the hang of it, Planetside offers an experience you just can't get with any other game.

Um.. I don't think my computer is up to the task though.
that's what I thought too but there were 2 pieces of news that made me OK with the risk. 1. the game was made in 2003 so the requirements aren't very high and 2. spin said if you can't run it then just PM him and he'll take the key and badge back and you will not get banned.

Yeah, I did, just for the hell of it. But it sounds like quite a good game.
Just to clarify, this isn't something you want to do "for the hell of it."

From the event description said:
Here is your FIRST and ONLY WARNING. The following items will get your game key canceled, your badge stripped and your account banned (if you have to ask for how long, don't even bother signing up).

[...]

2) Unwillingness to Play: I have the ability to check each account. If I find out you are not playing (we would like to see 5 hours a week, which isn't that much) the above will happen to your account.
It's a 5 hour plus per week commitment. If you signed up before reading that, you better hope you don't win, or it's bans-ville for you. (Edit: Aside from that, the other three rules basically read, "don't be a douchebag" and should be easy enough to handle by anyone who isn't a poster child of prenatal euthanasia.)
