Gameplay over graphic all the way! My bro is an idiot refusing to playing KOTOR just because he didn't like the graphic. I will never become someone who emphsis the graphic more then the gameplay.

I think making graphics worse is a terrible idea. There are maybe 1 or 2 actual problems with having good graphics, and most of the time the problem is based on how they're used. When used right, sexy graphics can immerse a gamer into the world even further. When used incorrectly and aimlessly, it can pull the gamer right out of it. For example, I really love the world of Red Dead Redemption. A lot of the reason for this is because the graphics make the landscape so real, that it looks practically like a high quality photo. The animation and the art style complement this (although there are some occasional hiccups, but those aren't there on purpose anyway) by looking realistic enough to create the illusion that his world really does exist. On the other hand, Fallout 3 has a very nice and beautiful looking landscape, but when you really take a closer look at the details, it reminds you that it's just a game. The animation and character models further bring you out of the illusion to remind you that you're just playing a game. This was my main concern with Fallout 3 (Though I really do admire many things about that game)

I really don't think that in either of those situations, making graphics worse would improve either of those games

Well said. I agree on every single point.

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR SAYING THIS, i actually have a friend who wont play anything that is not on the xbox 360 or equivilant to those graphics, and the games have to be rated at least higher then 8.5 for him to even look at it and it pisses me off. i mean i dont like mine craft either but i gave it a fair shake i just dont get the big thing about games like this where you create everything i dont get anything out of that but hey to each his own i'd rather play some thing along the lines of dark cloud 2 with a great story and great gameplay but whatevers cool with you guys have fun!as soon as this whole graphics wave stops i wilol be a much hapier gamer

The thing that's important is that the game has to look appealing.
Watching a movie on a shitty tape can somewhat downgrade the experience, and so can bad graphics.

The gameplay in the bulletstorm demo was incredibly fucking awful, but I enjoyed just admiring the beautiful scenery. I guess that's something.

I play everything from Dwarf Fortress to Crysis.

However, I think that, if a game can look good, it should do so, and thus I greatly prefer good visuals, when it's possible.

Art Design > High-End Graphics, and I feel like high-end graphics are often a cop-out so developers don't have to worry about decent visual art styles. In terms of visuals, I'd take Wind Waker or Kirby's Epic Yarn over Final Fantasy XIII or Red Dead Redemption any day of the week.

As long as the game doesn't look bad I'm willing to play it.

Games for me are more dependant on gameplay.

Besides it seems we already almost have photo realistic graphics.

(Yes that's obviously CryEngine 3)

I, eh, disagree. A lot really. I have tried to play older games with supposed amazing gameplay but the uglyness of it just puts me off too much. For example, Planescape. Even though a few mods made it better, the animations just ruin any sort of immersion for me.

You can tell, the ripples are too high and the reflections are too dark. And how'd the sky get that bright at the current sun angle?

yes minecraft is low graphics and fun, I have had lots of fun with minecraft in the past and present but an even lower graphics game that is still very fun in my opinion is Dwaft fortress, a game so poorly visualy rendured that it relys almost entirly on your imagionation to supply graphics for the game, it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to be able to sit back and imagion what my custom built fortress looks like, it feels like a return to childhood where everything was imagionation based

Gameplay makes or breaks a game.

Nice graphics are all very well but they really dont help when the game itself is horrible to play.

I agree its also that realistic graphics dont look that smooth to me (in comparison the Scott Pilgrim VS The World The Game or the Metal Slug series) give me smoothness over realism

If we got rid of better graphics, immersion would be all but dead (at least when I would play the games)

aslong as i can make out what things are then im happy, look at nier, a really good game, but comparatively the graphics for a 360 game are sub-par, and i literally couldnt care about that ha
