Honestly, I should like to say first and foremost that I am not a PC gamer. Nor a console gamer. Nor a tabletop gamer. I am a bloody gamer, I don't need to further compartmentalize myself in some misbegotten effort to seek greater singularity. I am a gamer-Just a gamer. I don't even need to be labeled a gamer anymore either, for that matter, since it seems like everyone and their mum is getting on the game train these days. I am a person who happens to play games. I don't need to validate it, so I shan't. There, that seems to settle it. Onto the image topi-NO WAIT, I want to go on a bit more!

The problem with the concept of Console Vs. PC gaming and the whole compartmentalisation of gaming as a whole is that I have noticed(Since I own...every gaming platform there is, because I apparently have ball's all else to do with my hard earned cash) that I am slowly developing 'niche' groups of friends in each sector. This is crazy. I don't want to have friends on Live, PSN, WoW, Guild Wars II, Planetside II, Starcraft II, and countless others that all hate each other simply because some are PC, some are X-Box, and some are Playstation players. It's ridiculous. We need to stop it and just all be friends. There, I'm done on that for real this time.

Do gamers have an image problem? No, I don't believe gamers have an image problem, anymore than dancers, or mix martial artists, or military personnel. I feel almost like the idea of us having an 'image problem' is quite quaint, because who exactly is this projected image for? Granny and Gramps? We have no image problem, because anyone can be a gamer, and almost everyone is. Gamers-whether casual or hardcore(whatever that means) are becoming the majority. We are the mainstream now. Are we all playing the same types of games the same amount of time? No, but almost everyone is playing some sort of game.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but Google popular searches doesn't seem like an apt representation of a target group's 'image' to me. Negativity is always the most widely-broadcast response on the internet because being contrary is a seemingly-popular thing these days. I can quite easily Google anything ambiguous or broad and come up with a million nasty searches on it. That is because this is the internet and the internet is full of foolish snarky twits with overinflated egos gorged on the freedom and power of internet anonymity. The only real major image preconception I have seen about gamers on the whole is that we are better with electronics.
Which is true.
So there.

YEA! Well MY PC has red AND blue LED fans with motherboard controlled speed settings! SO THERE! And one of the fans is red and blue at the same time! NYAH! :p~

OT: I would say the PC gamers that have the image problem are the ones who make a big deal about how much better PC gaming is over console gaming and if you think anything else you are totally wrong and should die, those people are extremist pricks. Those people are like religious extremists and to complete the metaphor while you have those kind of religious zealots you also have religious people who keep their faith to themselves and live their lives just like there are PC gamers who play their PC games and keep their mouths shut about it.

They're like America from what I've seen. The ones who want you to know that what they like is the best are vocal, loud and don't care who they offend and so they've become the representatives of PC gamers. It doesn't help with a lot of people going and saying: "the pc elite race", sure some people say that with a tone of sarcasm, but there's plenty out their who think because they play on PC, that does make them better then other people.

Those people could use some involuntary surgery, hehehe.

Try typing in the same with Console gamers are, when I did that I got retarded, stupid, not real gamers and idiots.

Type in any short thing in the Google search engine and you will come up with some retarded shit.

Also console gamers and PC gamers have so many fights that it shouldn't be a surprise that these things turn up on Google.
Console gamers are kids, PC gamers are twats, we get these arguments pretty much every day. Gamers are arguing about petty things.

I bet you can Google LoL, CoD, gamers, or any of a dozen other terms and get similar results. In fact I just did, and did.

A better question would be, "Do gamers have an image problem?" To which the answer is, unfortunately, no. We are seen as what all too many of us are. The bad image doesn't come from bad PR. It comes from gamers, or at least a disturbingly high percentage of us, being sniveling, entitled, misanthropic, maladjusted fourteen-year-olds whose solution to having no friends is to take all their anger out on total strangers. Teabagging corpses, rage-quitting because their team is slightly behind at the end of a round, hurling swear words and racial epithets like it's going out of style, griefing/TKing, etc. Simply because they know they'll get away with it, gamers love to engage in the kind of behavior that would cause most parents to give their child a smack.

As for elitism, it goes in all directions. The CoD-tards hate BF3 players. X-Box players think Nintendo is for little children. Console players think PCs are for arrogant suckers with too much money. PC players resent games being marketed to inherently less-sophisticated consoles. And so it goes.

I never wonder why people see gamers in a bad light. It isn't unique to gaming. You can have the same sort of conversation about cars, political parties, relationships, trading card games, etc. Everyone enjoys feeling superior. Focusing on the negative aspects of things we dislike makes us feel superior. I personally do this with sports: Why would anyone pay some steroid-popping caveman millions of dollars a year to hit a rock with a stick -- and why, for the love of god, would anyone want to watch such inanity on TV?

Im a PC gamer because the PC is an open platform that provides a massive variety of games I cant get elsewhere and the PC offers me infinite means to customize my PC for my playstyle and what feels comfortable for me. If people cant accept that I play on PC because its what I want out of a gaming platform, then I dont want to associate myself with them. At the same time I dont complain that people want to play on consoles either, everyone has their different playstyles and preferences. For example people swear by controllers but for me mouse and keyboard seems to be the most accurate targeting system for FPS games like Battlefield 3

That said, and heres the kicker, I get very annoyed when my games are dumbed down or turned into horrible ports because of 8 year old hardware on consoles. A game should be fit for purpose when I buy it, meaning it should have a reasonble amount of video, audio, and interface options for my platform. When we have game problems like Skyrims original interface not working right with mouse and keyboard it shows disrespect to me as a customer because its a shoddy product at that point, not one fit for purpose.

So from this perspective of PC gamers vs console gamers all Im going to say is I wish we could all get along and just play the games we want to play on the systems we enjoy playing them on. That would be the best for everyone so I dont think we have an image problem so much as people dont know how to talk to each other and still respectfully disagree

To the developers who do shoddy ports instead of putting in the proper amount of work I say, get your stuff together if you want to keep me as a customer

Whatever happened to playing games regardless of platform...
I'm sorry, when was that even a thing? People have been childish and petty about their platform of choice since before I was born.

This is the internet. Everyone and everything has an "image problem"

The internet is the greatest tools ever devised for loud-mouthed, small minded assholes to congregate and basically howl their opinions at the moon.

The rest of us are too busy enjoying games to care.

The constant seeking for other people's validation that video game is art is a good example.
This, PC gamers and gamers in general might have a bad image, but how the heck is that a problem?

Also, some video games might be art, and I couldn't care less if the rest of the world doesn't agree.

Exactly, it's only a problem, when you want it to be a problem. That's how I see it at least.

When someone says you don't have to get a $1000 pc to game on and can instead buy a mid range pc like $500 thats still "better", you'll still be playing games on fucking medium settings that look the same as console except now you have to go through the hassle of adjusting the graphics setting so the frame rate don't skip. Nice buy
To preface this, I'm a collector who will play any damn thing as long as it's fun. I built my PC for $350 bucks, and right now I'm running Tomb Raider on ultra with no TressFX hair at 41 fps, and Bioshock Infinite on ultra, somewhere between 32-37 fps (it likes to jump, especially VRAM usage). I was also able to mod out my Skyrim to gorgeous mode without a problem. Since nobody ever believes me when I say this, I'll detail how this happened:

Case - Cooler Master Black Lite $50
CPU - Intel i3 3.1 Ghz dual-core $75
Mobo - Intel generic-ass 1155 $25
Video Card - Nvidia GTX 465 1GB $75
HDD - Western Digital Caviar 2TB $80
Lite-on DVD/CD burner - $15
Microsoft keyboard/optical mouse - $30
Monitor - HDTV that the consoles use, over DVI at 1080p

If you set up Windows correctly, use game booster, keep your drive defragmented, keep your drivers up to date, and listen to this guy tweakguides.com, you can squeeze so much mileage out of your games. I'll probably need to upgrade when everything in the world is running UE4 (or settle for medium/high), but I could spend less than the amount of a PS4 on a video card and that should handle what's going to really change.

The point of this post isn't to shove some superiority in you or anyone's face, but to make a point that I can do just fine and be perfectly satisfied without spending $1000-2000 on a rig. I'd love to have a triple-monitor setup with an SLI rig and an i7 to push it, but I don't need it. I can have a better experience with my multiplats compared to consoles already without having to do that, and should I come into some money I actually have the ability and freedom to improve it further. The rush when powering up a $2000 rig is extremely powerful and never fades, and I suppose that can get to people's heads and convince them that their wealth combined with computer assembly knowledge (which is less complicated than a Lego spaceship) makes them somehow superior as people. It's bullshit, and I don't really care what anyone does with your free time, and now I'm wasting too much of yours.

Considering that every generation of console is aping PCs more and more in order to make consoles less pigeon-holed and useless as a multi-hundred-dollar computer system, console gamers don't really have a separate image anymore. They're simply PC gamers with a shittier PC that can't be modified or upgraded, but with all the headache and hassle that PC gamers have always had to deal with re; patching, DRM, spotty online play, server connectivity issues, etc.

The "point" of a console was easy plug-and-play - you put the game in the thing, and push the power button. The console existed to play video games, and it played video games damned well and with no heartburn. Every recent generation of console has gotten farther and farther away from that ideal, and have incorporated more and more bullshit headache-inducing crap that, originally, only plagued the PC gaming market. But with the legendary amount of patching and downloading and updating that has to be done every other time you start the game or turn the system on, it seems developers have completely forgotten what makes a console a console, and have demolished the console-only gaming crowd by merging them seamlessly into the PC crowd, with only a few confused stragglers that haven't really come to grips with the fact that their ps3 is actually just a PC with shittier hardware and proprietary software making it harder to develop for them.

If gamers had an "image," it should just be one of the Picard Facepalm - as developers constantly fail to comprehend even the most basic wants and needs of its consumer base.

Joking aside, I have consoles and a gaming PC.

Am I a hybrid that will bring about the end of days?

Long may the Multi-platform Master Race laugh at the poor single platform peasants :D

Honestly though, would it not just be so much easier if nobody gave a shit what other people played?

[sub]I think I hope for too much with that statement [/sub]
To me this group is too much money too little brains, and possibly too much time on their hands. I mean why would you PAY for a 360? Dear god why? More to the point when are you going to play all of those, I mean if you don't find yourself playing one system more than the others I would be baffled.

Being rich and stupid isn't something to be proud of. Now being poor and smart with the skill to forge your PC in to a gaming machine that transcends system labels, generations, and legality as though they were nothing, that's something to be proud of. I'd even say it's something to be proud of being poor and push the legal limits of your console to give yourself full access to it's features as you deem fit.

Buying a bunch of shit.
That's nothing to be proud of.

That said. Agreed, fuck everyone being so up in everyone else's business. I mean what is a man but a miserable pile of secrets anyway?

I dont seek any validation from console gamers and I dont despise them eithere because i just lack the data on them(Onley other console besides pc i had was nokia 6610i)... And I dont judge 'em because if i would hawe a real job then i would buy myself atleast ps2 or psx to try out many console exclusive games but still i like games in general and play them despite the platform they are runned on(because i played freinds suikoden 2 and V on psx-ps2 emulator on my pc)...
