I took another user's post and turned it into this thread. I forget his name, he can PM me and I'll edit it.
EDIT: Oh damn, I screwed up the poll, how would I go back to change it?

I believe most people have an easier time with stereotypes, and everyone has some sort of inferiority complex. So they have to negatively stereotype that which they don't like, don't understand, or possibly fear. And America is easily stereotyped.

But it does get old.

This is the internet. If it's popular enough, it will be beaten down with memes. besides, everyone likes to shit on others, especially Europeans. That includes England; while I know they're all stuck up about being an island and not actually part of Europe, they're so similar and shit on the others as much as they shit on them. Really, I think it's in part that the states don't do it as much. There's some stuff about the French and Mexicans, but that's about it.

Every country and people have stereotypes applied to them and apply to others. The best way to avoid stereotypes is assume you know nothing of people you have not met.

People like to over-stereotype the U.S., yes. The thing is, people over-stereotype every country. Americans do it too.

Egh. They can take it. They can go swear allegiance to the flag, if they feel insecure.

This is payback for throwing our fucking tea into Boston Harbour. YEAH. WITH A 'U'.

Yes, but America stereotypes everyone, so its even.

Really everyone stereotypes everyone. Its just annoying iwth all the I-hate/dislike-America-for/because-______________. They get tiring, and its not like other countries dont have easily distinguishible flaws.

Though then again, it gets tiring when anyone makes a hate thread.

Then a lot of people I know aren't average Americans.

And the dumbest comment of the day goes to.....MACHETESWORDGUN. WOOHOO! You just won the grand prize!
I think people confuse America letting its crazy right-wing nuts on the air, or the president's chair, with all Americans being morons.

I do genuinely believe there's a problem with political culture in America, but I also believe a lot of Americans would agree with that.

Replace 'America' with anything else that is stereotyped. It will still be true.

Yes, it happens, and it's silly. You can't judge a place you've never been to. That's what they do in Russia!

In all seriousness, yes, the US is stereotyped, along with every nation that a lot of people have at least some significant information about. It's annoying, but it is a constant in life.

I hope you keep the beavers and the polar bears separate... I would think that could get a little messy otherwise.

If you have ever seen any American tourists overseas, the stereotype actually does a decent representation of Americans. When out of country, we behave arrogantly as if our shit doesn't stink, most don't bother learning or making an attempt to communicate in the native language of the country, and genuinely feel they are superior to others.

If you think otherwise, you probably have very little world travel under your belt. Suffice it to say I have visited 10+ other countries outside the United States and see how the typical American behaves. 95% of the time, they live up to the American stereotype; hate to burst your precious little bubble.
