It irritates the hell out of me.

I ignore anyone who talks like that.

I don't care if that makes me look ignorant. If they can't be bothered to type out full words then I can't be bothered to respond to them. Now you know you are getting old when you keep repeating yourself. Sure i've said that before.

Yes, I can't understand why people do this when normal words are available. Annoys me to no end.

For the record, it's "do people [...] bother you". Not does.

People writing text messages like that because they want to shorten them doesn't bother me. People writing like that on internet forums and instant messaging programs will likely get a scolding from me sooner or later.
It's late, I'm tired, sue me :p

Yes, it irritates me beyond belief. Whenever I read something like it, I imagine that the person has an IQ of 70, because they deserve it.

It bothers me in a way that I sometimes have trouble decoding their messages, but I don't take any MAJOR offense to it.

Textese =/= inability to spell or an IQ of a doorknob in most cases. Just sayin'

In a text message its alright, but on a forum when pretty much all computers have a spell check? Hell no!
The thing is, that a lot of people get used to typing like that and then it becomes automatic.
And then you get motivation letters and CV's in text speech. Now thats hilarious!

Also... This.

I do that sometimes, mostly when texting, because I'm lazy. Not because I'm an imbecile.
So if I said it bothers me I guess that would make me a hypocrite.

No. It must mean that their message is not worth reading if they didn't even take the time to spell properly.

I'm such a grammars Nazi.
Sweet delicious irony.

It... sorta bothers me? I don't really care too much if other people do it, as long as it's comprehensible. However, I hold myself to a high standard, and will use correct spelling and grammar even in a text message. However I will use shorthand in games when time is of the essence.

It only really bothers me on the internet. I can understand the use of "text speak" through text messaging or in gaming sessions, but otherwise it just looks lazy and childish.

I usually try to be as articulate as I can when typing, whether it be on the internet, phone or in-game.

I rarely make an issue of it with people, though. I don't really care that much. I try not to be a grammar Nazi either because I'm not above mistakes myself.

It bothers me immensely online, but in texts, not so much. What I do hate though is when people try to use text speak but only replace letters in the words, not make them shorter. Also when people use 'da' instead of 'the'. WHY?! I am irrationally pissed off now.

Now when I say that, I don't mean on a phone or IMS, I mean in forums and emails (like this one)

Examples being:

"no i dunt tink that cod6 is bad, fuk u"

etc.
that isn't 'textese'. thats just terrible spelling. internet spelling is better when it as least legible. or an acronym, which i use from time to time.

Text speak always bothers me, beyond certain things like "lol" or smilies. Use in anything but situations where space or time are limited.. like a traditional text or a fast paced game... is unforgivable.

Phones with reasonably sized screens, keypads or touch screens have no reason to use it even for texts.
