The term 'exterminatus' is thrown around a lot these days, but if that isn't a sign of he taint of chaos upon mankind, I don't know what is.
Never heard of it. What is it meant to mean?
Wait...really? Your avatar most definitely appears to be a Space Marine.

http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Exterminatus

That should suitably explain it.
Yeah, it's a Space Marine. I mostly just paint & play, so I'm not well versed in the backstory (I know enough to play though)

I tend to compare them to small children that haven't learned to spell.

"no i dunt tink that cod6 is bad, fuk u"
I would hit anyone if I could find them if they spelled it "dunt". What the hell is the point in changing letters. Shortening I understand but changing? o_O

Oh, also: I also find it retarded to take away 1-2 letter(s).
Acronyms are fine as long as it's common acronyms.

It's pretty annoying. I can't help but imagine the person writing to be a 12 year old kid.

Yeah I hate it. Even in text I don't like the short hand spelling. I prefer the proper English. I'm such a grammars Nazi.

actually there are some acronyms i don't mind like LOL or ROFL. I need those for the forums
I agree with this.

I do really, really hate when people shorten the word 'you' to 'u'. Seriously it's three fucking letters, stop making yourself look like such a twat!

Yes.

It relates to this current generations' attitude of "me first!" and thinking they are the only ones that matter, as well as their pass the buck mentality of "it's not my fault!"

There's no pride left. No one takes pride in anything they do anymore, from the little to the big. It's not so much being a grammer nazi and instead caring that what I write is at least legible. If you can't take the time to make your thoughts coherent, then you should learn to keep your mouth (or fingers) shut!

This is part of a wider societal problem of laziness, and is simply a symptom, but it's very noticable in day to day life, ergo it bothers me...

Annoys me more than anything else, even more than people mixing up "your" and "you're".
Even inside video games I find the whole concept stupid, it only makes the orders you write to others a lot harder to read. But I guess some people find it useful, for some reason.
I assume they are orders anyway, because if you would have a normal text-based conversation you wouldn't need to "save" time by butchering away a few letters.

It's annoying. Like an itch you can't reach. You want to fix it but you know you can't after having failed once already...One of the reasons I like this forum so much is the lack of "1337"/"leet" speak. I use the occasional "lol" in chats because it's just an easy way to show laughter and it has effectively become an onomatopoeia for laughter.

Yes. Yes it does. Although I hate it, I do understand "textese" when you've got character limits or an inefficient method of input. Anywhere else, it's just obnoxious. I usually don't bother mentioning it, though. Any time I see it in a forum post I just ignore it. Clearly the author didn't have anything meaningful to say.

If you ask 'plz' instead of 'please' because it's shorter, I'm going to respond 'no' instead of 'yes' because it's shorter.

Oh God do I hate it. But I'm a Grammar Nazi. I do have friends that hate it too. I think as a rule of thumb, 90% of people hate other people that talk like that.

It's mildly annoying when I know someone is still using it extensively on a real, full-sized keyboard, but I have no problem with it if someone it typing from a phone.

When I see "text speak," my immediate impression, whether or not its fair, is that the person is less intelligent or just lazy.

Now, to be fair, I've known some people who use txt spk (ungh...) and are perfectly nice and intelligent people.

Still, the way you communicate is a demonstration of your education and effort. It always has been. And communicating in that way doesn't demonstrate a respectable level of intellect or effort.

I don't really care how someone writes, as long as I can understand it. If I can't, then it bothers me.

If it makes it unreadable, or if they do it on a professional paper. I work on the side editting papers and other things for people (yes,y ou can argue that its cheating, but I make a good 60 bucks a month from it nyah) and it just hurts me when I see someone turn in a paper and it says something like "Cleveland is d gr8est city evah, and its people r awesome"

That was literally the opening line to a persons report on cleveland. I just couldnt make it past that to read the rest. I just didnt have it physically in me to.

And as an aside, by giving it a name, we're only encouraging it.

Yes.

-"You know those red squiggles under select words?"

--"Yea I get those all the time, the computer is always complimenting me on my large vocabulary!"

-"No, no it is not. It is telling you that you should check your spelling."

--"I'm not so sure about that, this is the internet no1 kares how U spull."

-"Yes.... yes that do, you have no excuse, just right click it, or google it."

Spellcheck is built into just about everything you can type in these days, I don't think there is any excuse. A small error here or there sure..... but remember to make use of the edit button.

My 92 cents.

It annoys the crap out of me, so I try to set an example by writing complete sentences, with capitalization and the like.

It doesn't necessarily bother me...okay, yes it does, but I've grown accustomed to it. I just refuse to do it myself.
