It bothers me because if you take the time, it can be just as fast to just type the words normally.

An odd slip, I ignore. But when its an entire post in my head I read it in a retarded voice and just automatically end up discrediting anything they say. If they don't have the mental fortitude to spell/type at least reasonably correctly then (IMO) they don't have the mental fortitude to form a valid opinion.

To add some context to this: I got diagnosed as dyspraxic years ago. I'm supposed to have trouble with english (among other things), so if I can manage it you have no excuse.

Now when I say that, I don't mean on a phone or IMS, I mean in forums and emails (like this one)

Examples being:

"no i dunt tink that cod6 is bad, fuk u"

etc.
that isn't 'textese'. thats just terrible spelling. internet spelling is better when it as least legible. or an acronym, which i use from time to time.
Yes well, it was all I could think of. A better example would be something like this:

"il c u l8r"

Oh sweet lord, I'm surprised that I get as pissed off as I do when it pops up in a place like this site. Really? Is it that difficult to mash a couple of extra keys?

But then again I do enjoy the slight feeling of superiority I get whenever I see someone doing it.

Sweet delicious irony.

It... sorta bothers me? I don't really care too much if other people do it, as long as it's comprehensible. However, I hold myself to a high standard, and will use correct spelling and grammar even in a text message. However I will use shorthand in games when time is of the essence.
Damn! You win this round Hexenwolf.

LOL. What a failure

I don't even use "textese" when texting. Unless I make a legitimate typo/ spelling error, or am clearly making a joke, my messages are written out properly.

Oh yeah, it really annoys me. I don't mind honest mistakes but it's not like it takes much more effort to write in a coherent manner. I don't want to have to spend a minute trying to figure out what it is you're saying. Generally I'll just skip posts that are like that.

It bothers me in a way that I sometimes have trouble decoding their messages, but I don't take any MAJOR offense to it.

Textese =/= inability to spell or an IQ of a doorknob in most cases. Just sayin'
So very, very true.

I can forgive missing out a couple letters if you are sending a text message and you go slightly over the character count but sending indecipherable gibberish that requires a full team of code breakers is just too fucking far.
Also, quite true.

I do not text for it takes me too long to write a simple sentence, because I will spell everything correctly. Also it drives me insane if someone writes something that is so misspelled that I want yell at them.

No, but I have zero respect for someone who is trying to tell me something but they don't know how to spell or use correct grammar. This is especially true in these days of spell-checking and the Internet. I may not know how to spell every word but I at least know when I need to check something.

Nope, as long as I can understand what they are saying, which I usually can. I have no problem with it really.

It's situational, isn't it? In-game, typing quickly is often necessary which is why I wouldn't mind bad grammar there. Texting should be alright so long as it's shorthand. For example; 'evar' instead of 'ever' isn't shortening it; it's just being an idiot. On forums, English should be written in a proper, coherent form.

The term 'exterminatus' is thrown around a lot these days, but if that isn't a sign of he taint of chaos upon mankind, I don't know what is.

Never heard of it. What is it meant to mean?

if people do it in person throw water on them and yell loudly "THE POWER OF ENGLISH COMMANDS YOU!"
Every time I hear someone say 'jk' or 'lol' out loud, I feel like a little bit of me dies inside.

It doesn't make me angry or anything, but that's probably because I hardly ever see it. But it is a bit hard to take the post seriously.

I voted Yes, but my answer goes mostly to when people say them aloud like 'lol, thats so funny' I hate that, and 'oh, that's tots true'.

You might save two syllables, but you make yourself look like an ass.

But yes, I don't like it when there's an overt and over use of them, your example works for that.

Wait...really? Your avatar most definitely appears to be a Space Marine.

That should suitably explain it.

I've never minded "lol" myself, or say, a 'brb' from someone in a hurry... but as for anything else, I really can't stand it. Even when I used a mobile phone, I'd spell out the words instead of using those ugly and oft-incomprehensible shortcuts, and I'm as lazy as hell.
