He has a slight influence, but not much. He does make some good points about games, but i generally don't listen. Only the ones he says are absolutely shit (too human and wet) will I listen

He's an entertainer, not a reviewer. You wouldn't go to - or avoid - a particular holiday destination just because some comedian keeps making jokes about it, would you? Actual reviews here at the Escapist, maybe. Reviews elsewhere, possibly. But mostly I buy games because I think/know I'll like them.

There are two notable exceptions, though; the way he described Saints' Row 2 sounded good, so I bought the game, but I didn't like it. And I bought Psychonauts based on his recommendation, which I do not regret.

Yahtzee doesn't do reviews. He does criticisms. By his own admission. He is proud not to be a reviewer.

But yes, he does inform my buying decisions to a certain extent, in a general sort of way, but he's obviously not my only influence. I respect his opinions because he's a clever guy and they've tended to coincide with my own opinions in the past. There is no reviewer whose opinions I value more than his; I use a wide variety of sources to determine what to buy, or sometimes I just go by the box art.

This poll is a joke; it purposefully encumbers the "yes" option with a ludicrous statement that noone in their right mind would ever agree with, and the statement attached to the "no" option is a universal truism that everyone in their right mind would have to agree with even if they would not vote "no". It's predetermined to favour the opinion of the OP, who fails at polling.

Depends on the game really, usually I have decided my purchases far ahead of time, like I can tell you I will be buying New Vegas and the Dragon Age in next January, also Mass Effect 3 in 2011 >.<

Yahtzee influence my game decisions? Don't get me wrong, his reviews are funny. But I'm not about to let him tell me what games are good and which ones aren't.

Not at all. I check GameSpot/IGN for reviews, since they're most on par with my tastes.

I'm kind of the opposite of Yahtzee. I thoroughly enjoy almost every game I play, even so-called mediocre ones. Therefore, it's kind of hard to use his reviews as a judgement tool. Still, the man is funny.

Ehmm... This is a tough one, because with most games, I decide way before the release to buy or not buy the game. That, and Yahtzee rarely seems to review games I'm interested in. Or he reviews them when I've already played them. Or I see his reviews only after I've played the game.

Aside from that, though, Yahtzees reviews *would* make an impact on my decisions if the timing was different. He has reviewed a bunch of games I have played and I always found him to be 100% right and in line with my own opinion of those games, so if the situation allows it, I will definitely forego buying a game he says is shit.

They sure do, but not his review alone, it's kinda like a "heads up" to me. I go to other reviews and websites to complete my research and maybe look up some gameplay vids on Youtube as well.

I agree with many others that if he likes something that means it is probably amazing but other then that, no his opinion doesn't turn me off of a game. I am always very cautious when buying games and therefore read many reviews and check metacritic to decide whether the flaws would be annoying enough to destroy my enjoyment of said game. Yahtzee goes hit some games flaws right on the head but usually if that is true I find them less game wreaking then him.

I do not solely base my purchases based on his reviews, but they do provide a bit of insight, especially since he feels the same about certain aspects of gaming that i do.

i voted "i prefer scrabble" by which i mean i really only get retro games for the N64 and game boy, which are often several times more fun and cost about a quid each

He is entertainment. I would have picked no, if the poll choices didn't try to pigeon-hole me into an opinion.

spoony on the other hand actually convinces me to buy games ....

I believe it is a touch of both, he is more so the Satire on the gaming world. But I have not bought any games that I wanted based on his reviews. They're funny and very true but still if you think you'll enjoy it, get it.

I don't buy a lot of the games he reviews anyway. Mainly I just watch for the review itself and to make all my friends who DO own the games shout back at my computer screen as if he can hear them.

He's funny as hell but no I don't take his reviews into consideration when thinking about getting a new game. Generally I listen to some of the other reviews the Escapist staff do here and see some of the other reviews people post here to see what they think about it and it's problems.

This poll is bias and pathetic. There is no middle ground whatsoever. It's either one extreme or another.
