There's a lot of planets out there. A metric shitload of em. Even if the chance of life evolving on any given planet is ten billion to one, there are enough planets around that you will still have hundreds or more with life on them.
Whether any of it is intelligent is a different kettle of fish though.

I believe that the possibility of alien life is astronomically (pun) large.

I don't think we'll ever encounter them though.
Simply too far away.
To quote the movie Contact:

Young Ellie: Dad, do you think there's people on other planets?
Ted Arroway: I don't know, Sparks. But I guess I'd say if it is just us... seems like an awful waste of space.

Mathematically, it's quite unlikely that we are the only intelligent life - let alone the only life - in this universe. So I can say that yes, I am convinced that "we are not alone".
Our galaxy, the milky way, alone has up to 300 billion stars. That's 300,000,000,000. Now if only every tenth star has planets, that's still 30,000,000,000 (30 billion). Now if one in every thousand solar systems would have life, that would still be 30,000,000 (30 million) systems. Now if one of every thousand systems with a planet with life sports intelligent life, that would still be 30,000 (30 thousand) systems and thus civilizations.

And that's in our galaxy alone. At the moment 50 billion (50,000,000,000) galaxies are observable from earth, each with several billions of stars in them...
Heck, even if only every millionth galaxy had one single planet bearing intelligent life, it would still amount to 50 thousand civilizations.

On the other hand, I don't believe in the "grays" visiting us and cover up conspirations. As any life form would have to adhere to the same physics as we do, it's just not feasable that they would travel here, or even have remote contact.
...Wow, you said what I was going to say pretty much exactly. I guess that's it then.

It's less a matter of belief and more a matter of "how far away are they?" At some point they're just so far away that no one is ever going to see them, so they might as well not exist, but the fact of the matter is that life is out there.

In a galaxy as large as ours the chances that we are the only life at all is harder to belive than if we arn't

I believe that they exist, the universe is too large for us to be the only beings in it. Probability states that from the mass amount of planets, one of them has to have something. What I do not believe is that they have visited Earth. If they had the technology to travel here, they would not need us for anything. We wouldn't even make good work-slaves. When you think about it, humans are pretty weak.

or the galactic empire....yeah....awesome...

The Galactic Empire are mostly humans. So yeah.

OP: If we suppose that the idea that the universe is infinite is true, then it is impossible that they do not exist somewhere in the universe.

Yes since who say there can't be any other sentient lifeforms out there in space? It kind of arrogant to say we are alone.

Wait I thought we already had alien microbe fossils, or was that debunked...

But given the size of the universe I doubt Earth was the first or last planet to have life on it. Wouldn't want to meet aliens, mainly because Life-supporting planets are definitely the most valuable resource in the universe, and we all know what happens to primitive species in possession of valuable resources.

Do I believe that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe? Of course.
Do I believe that it is more advanced than us? Maybe.
Do I believe that it they have visited us? No.

"Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us."

It's not a belief, there's already very basic lifeforms lying around Jupiter's moons, but they're just insignificant bacteria.

Actually I think they're extinct now or something, can't really remember. There was an article on it somewhere.

I am 100% sure there is intelligent alien life elsewhere in the universe, simply due to the astronomically large numbers involved (we aren't that unique, and the idea that we are the only intelligent guys around reminds me of the days when it was believed that the earth is at the center of the galaxy). Chances we'll actually meet one of these civilizations? Probably very low.

Speaking statistically I would have to say yes, there is simply to much space out there for there not to be at least some type of life out there. As to whether or not they've achieved intelligence or not I cannot say.

I'd like to think that the most advanced alien species we will encounter will be as close to human as possible, and would have evolved at pretty much the same time and same rate as us, so we would probably meet when we humans finally master space flight.

I'm certainly open to the possibility, yes. Though whether or not it's intelligent life remains to be seen. I really hope that I live long enough to witness actual proof of alien life when or if it's found. Just imagine how awesome that would be, we wouldn't be alone. Tons of new questions would be asked and questions we have now that are still being filled with primitive myths will be answered by science. Oh, the mindgasms that'd bring... :p

Well. Saying 'I believe in Aliens' is very different to saying 'I believe that there is a very real possiblity of other life in the universe'. So I refuse to vote in your poll because it is rubbish.

Statistically, it's very implausible aliens don't exist. There is so much space, chances are there is other intelligent life out there. Stephen Hawking agrees, your argument is invalid.
