EDIT: Dahhh. Fuckdonkies. The message board ate my poll. Well, feel free to answer as best as you like anyway.

I've been a gamer all my life. I'd place myself in the "core" market, for certain... yet I've never, ever purchased a piece of DLC. This is mainly because I'm incredibly poor and it's a big enough stretch just to pick up all the games I want, let alone buy a bunch of extra side-quests and junk for a game I've already finished and have no time to play.

That said, it's actually put me in somewhat of a curmudgeony mindset. I'm in the habit of ignoring supplemental material and tend to consider whatever has been put on the disc as the entirety of the game I bought for all intents and purposes. Thinking about this, I wondered to myself how many people are in the same boat or if I'm in the minority.

So, how about it, gamers of the Escapist? Do you avidly and regularly buy DLC, save it for specific, major releases or DLC packs that're particularly meaty (more like downloadable expansion packs), or are you like me and do you try to ignore it altogether?

EDIT 2: To clarify, I'm talking very specifically about going to an online store and downloading a standalone piece of DLC. Special editions like Fallout 3: GOTY Edition, which include a pile of all the DLC thus far as bonus material, needn't apply. I realize that's a fine line to draw for some, but for the people who picked the special edition up as their first copy it makes all the difference.

Nope. I only have DLC if it's free or included with the game (Bonus packs, GOTY, Complete Editions, etc.)

Nope. The one time I actually bought DLC was for Dragon Age: Origins, since I wanted to 100% it(never happened before I got sick of the game). Bought two DLC packs for around 6 euros each and I didn't even get 15 minutes worth of gameplay. I felt ripped off big time.
Soooo these days I ignore DLC.

Never. I've already paid $60 bucks for the goddamn game. Last thing I want to do is flock over more money just to add to what's already there.

Nope, and I never will. I don't want to encourage the "bleed us dry" mentality in the industry.

If I really liked the game, and the DLC has positive reviews, I'll buy it.

it depends because some DLC are really long and worth it and some are not
dragon age 1 example : warden's keep = short not really worth it
shale = long and a funny character (its long because its an extra character and has a long side quest thingie)

Generally, I do not unless it's really cheap or worth my money. I have none of the Dragon Age Origin DLCs.

I bought about $15 worth in DW7 which is mostly a bundle of small things. Extra skins, a few weapon sets, I think the Japanese-voices was free. And a few extra levels (adding diversity to the 'just grind the hardest level the game came with' which helps such a grind-heavy game).

I haven't played the game much.

I spent about $50 on League of Legends and bought a few skins.

Not overly. I prefer to have the GOTY editions. I did purchase some Borderlands DLC, before the GOTY edition came out. Doh! Dragon Age I enjoyed a lot of the DLC content, too.

The price to the length of some DLC is a bit cheeky, I think.

I still like the concept however. If I really like the game, then I shall get some DLC

Yes, I do. I buy DLC for games I like.

It's like tipping at a Restaurant - if a game is good, I give the developers some extra money. Plus it makes the game longer. It's win-win.

Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, and several others have been the recipients of my extra cash, and I have not regretted it.

Nah, not really. I'm talking specifically when you go to an online store and download something extra by itself, not when you get a special edition with a pile of extra content.

If I want to extend a game I like, of course. Quoted from someone else in the thread: "Yes, I do. I buy DLC for games I like.

I almost never. There are only some rare situations that I will. If my bro and I both share a game and he wants to get DLC then it's only fair that we split the cost as I will end up using it also. If the game is insanely good (such as portal or Command and conquer standards) then i'll consider it. Mostly I just look for/make mods.

I don't. I'd rather get a new game than a small piece of one I've already played. My wallet is hurting as it is.

If I suspect I'll get my moneys worth,By which I mean has more to the story and content like Fallout's DLC and Dragon Age Awakening, anything free I also grab.
